The travelling popular comedy in dialect, heart of the Ripalimosani carnival
The Ripalimosani Masked Play (CB) is one of the most original carnival traditions in Molise. It is not a simple masked parade, but a true popular theatrical comedy, entirely performed in dialect, which winds through the streets of the village, involving citizens as actors and extras.
The performance unfolds in five "posate" (stages), open-air stages set up in various parts of the village, leading to the grand finale at the "Nicolino Camposarcuno" Municipal Theatre. Each year the script changes, with an original comic story that stages events and characters from village life. Concert masters and directors guide the numerous local performers in a highly engaging collective theatrical machine.
The event is organized by the association La Bottega della Mascherata, with the patronage of the Municipality and the Pro Loco, and also includes initiatives dedicated to young people to pass on the tradition. The day concludes with food stalls and music in Piazza San Michele. The Masked Play is today an authentic identity heritage of Ripalimosani.
