About Retake Day Pietralata

Retake Day is the major national mobilization promoted by the Retake association for the care of common goods. In Rome, the main event takes place at Parco Sandro Pertini in Pietralata, within the Fourth Municipality. Armed with gloves, bags, grabbers, and scrapers, dozens of volunteers meet for a morning of grass cutting, collecting abandoned waste, and removing graffiti. It is a concrete act of urban regeneration that strengthens the bond between citizens and their neighborhood, concluding with the traditional group photo.

A morning to regenerate Pietralata

Retake Day transforms Parco Sandro Pertini in Pietralata, located in the Tiburtino district of Rome (Municipality IV), into the Roman capital of urban decorum. In just one morning, dozens of volunteers, coordinated by the local Retake Roma groups, meet at the Via della Lignite entrance to take care of a green space frequently used by the neighborhood. This is not just a simple cleanup: it is a civic gesture aimed at mending the relationship between people and the places they inhabit every day.

The program for the day at Parco Sandro Pertini

Each participant brings their own Retake volunteer tools: grabbers, bags, gloves, scrapers, and banners. Activities are focused on several fronts, inside and around the park:

  • Grass cutting and green maintenance over an area of approximately 4,000 square meters;
  • Collection and sorting of waste abandoned in the park and along adjacent streets;
  • Removal of graffiti and vandalism from common spaces;
  • Final group photo, a symbolic moment that concludes the morning and celebrates the community.

Retake: a network born in Rome

The Retake association was founded in Rome in 2010 as a spontaneous civil society movement with the goal of fighting urban decay and fostering a strong sense of community. Since then, the network has spread extensively across dozens of Italian cities. Retake Day is its national mobilization: over the same weekend, many cities activate simultaneously around the themes of caring for common goods, urban regeneration, and civic participation. The Pietralata event is one of the Roman hearts of this day.

Concrete results in the area

The value of Retake Day is also measured in figures. At Parco Sandro Pertini, volunteers collected and disposed of over 120 kilos of waste, including approximately 100 kg of unsorted waste, 18 kg of glass, 3.5 kg of plastic, and 1.5 kg of aluminum. As Retake Roma president Fabrizio Milone emphasizes, the participation demonstrates how important it is to promote shared responsibility and care for the territory to build more aware communities and more livable urban spaces.

A commitment to Municipality IV and the entire city

Registering is simple and free: registration takes place via the Retake app, and participation is open to citizens of all ages, families, schools, and associations. The Pietralata Retake Day is much more than an event: it is an invitation to reclaim one's neighborhood, in Rome as in the rest of Italy, with concrete actions and a strong community spirit.
