About Quarto Miglio Music Festival

Every year, as summer approaches, the Quarto Miglio district of Rome transforms its squares into open-air stages. The Quarto Miglio Music Festival is a local event promoted by the VII Municipality of Rome in collaboration with the Pro Loco Quarto Miglio: three days of free concerts held between Largo Padre Leonardo Bello and the Largo dei Claudiani Market Area, featuring jazz, rock, blues, country, and tribute bands, along with a food area and an audience primarily made up of families and local residents.

A neighborhood festival playing for the whole city

The Quarto Miglio Music Festival began as a Roman offshoot of the European Music Festival held on the summer solstice, but within just a few editions, it has forged its own identity: that of a festival deeply rooted in its neighborhood. We are in the VII Municipality of Rome, along the Appia Nuova, in a part of the city named after the fourth mile of the ancient Appian Way, which rarely appears on the central historical circuit. Here, for three evenings, the squares become open-air concert halls, and admission is always free.

Two squares, one shared stage

The event is split between two iconic neighborhood spots. Largo Padre Leonardo Bello, a square returned to the residents after redevelopment, hosts the opening night. The Largo dei Claudiani Market Area, the commercial heart of the district, hosts the following two days: a local market by day, and a concert venue by night, with stalls making way for chairs and a dining area.

A deliberately eclectic program

The hallmark of the festival is variety. The lineup features a mix of local jazz orchestras, crossover groups reinterpreting Italian and international pop, rock-blues bands, acoustic ensembles, country acts, and tribute bands dedicated to the great names of pop music. It is a precise choice: no dominant genre, but a mosaic that allows very different audiences—from teenagers to grandparents—to find their perfect evening. Many of the artists involved are Roman musicians, often linked to the territory of the VII Municipality and neighboring districts like Quadraro.

Who organizes it

The initiative is promoted by the VII Municipality of Rome together with the Pro Loco Quarto Miglio, the association that has been enlivening the cultural and social life of the district for years. The underlying idea, reiterated by municipal administrators, is that music should be able to live in neighborhoods, squares, and parks, alongside people, and not just in the large venues of the city center. The Pro Loco manages hospitality, members, and coordination with local businesses, which participate with the food area.

What atmosphere to expect

  • Free admission to all concerts, no reservation required
  • Food and refreshment area managed by local shops and neighborhood businesses
  • Family-friendly audience, with children and strollers out until late at night
  • Concerts from early afternoon/evening until around midnight
  • An opportunity to discover a piece of Rome outside the tourist circuits

Quarto Miglio, between the Appian Way and local life

The district is located just minutes from the Appian Way Regional Park and the catacombs: those arriving from outside Rome can easily combine an evening of concerts with an afternoon stroll among the Roman tombs and the pines of the Appian Way. It is this dual soul—great archaeology just a stone's throw away and a neighborhood square festival right at home—that makes the Quarto Miglio Music Festival a unique event in the summer landscape of Lazio and the city of Rome.

Why it's worth going

It is not a festival of big numbers or big names, and it doesn't pretend to be. It is a festival that tells the story of how Rome can still build community in its historic suburbs: live music for free, local artists, and a neighborhood market that turns into an arena for a night. For those visiting the capital in June, it is one of the most authentic ways to spend a Roman evening.

Quarto Miglio Music Festival — edition 2026

The sixth edition of the Quarto Miglio Music Festival took place from June 19 to 21, 2026, promoted by the VII Municipality of Rome together with the Pro Loco Quarto Miglio. Three evenings of free concerts divided between Largo Padre Leonardo Bello, home to the opening night, and the Largo dei Claudiani Market Area, which hosted Saturday and Sunday: jazz, pop crossover, rock-blues, country, and tribute bands, with a food area open for the duration of the event.

Sixth edition: three evenings, two squares

From June 19 to 21, 2026, the Quarto Miglio district in the VII Municipality of Rome hosted the sixth edition of the Music Festival. The festival opened on Friday, June 19, at Largo Padre Leonardo Bello and moved for the weekend to the Largo dei Claudiani Market Area, with free admission to all concerts.

A lineup of jazz, rock, and tributes

The program alternated between very different groups: from the local jazz orchestra to crossover pop groups, from rock-blues to country, and tributes to the great names of pop music. The evenings continued until late, accompanied by the food area managed by local businesses.

Music in the neighborhoods

The Councilor for Culture of the VII Municipality, Riccardo Sbordoni, recalled the spirit of the initiative: music must be able to live in neighborhoods, squares, and parks, alongside people. A principle that the Quarto Miglio Music Festival applies to the letter, bringing three days of free concerts to a part of Rome far from the major circuits.
