The natural wine festival spread across the bars of Pigneto
Quartiere Vino Pigneto is a widespread event dedicated to natural wine that, every May, turns the entire Pigneto district into a large open-air tasting trail. Not a fair confined to a pavilion, but a festival that unfolds along the streets, alleys, and historic venues of one of the most authentic and creative neighborhoods in Rome, in the Lazio region. Bars, wine shops, restaurants, artisan workshops, and art galleries open their doors to winemakers, who set up their stands for the day to meet the public in person.
The formula is simple and convivial. You purchase a pass, collect your branded wine glass (which you keep as a souvenir) and a wristband, and then you are free to roam on foot between the participating venues. At each stand, a producer pours their wines and talks about their terroir, the vineyard, and their production philosophy, rooted in sustainable and artisanal practices far from industrial logic. Collection points are distributed across two main areas of the district, and the event map suggests recommended routes to help you navigate the dozens of stops.
The heart of the event is the winemakers: dozens of producers arrive from all over Italy and abroad—France, Spain, Slovenia—bringing a total of over 400 labels of natural wine. It is a rare opportunity to taste such a wide selection in a single day and to meet the people who actually make the wine, in a direct and informal relationship that has become the festival's hallmark.
Quartiere Vino Pigneto is not just about tasting. The event hosts VinArt, a market dedicated to illustrators, artists, and creatives, where wine meets the visual arts. During the day, the Associazione Bella Storia leads free walking tours to discover the old taverns and stories of Pigneto, the neighborhood made famous by neorealist cinema and now a landmark for Rome's nightlife. Many venues then host the after-party, with special tastings, celebrations, and DJ sets that extend the experience late into the night.
Conceived by the local natural wine scene—with SO2 and Vini Selvaggi among the promoters—the event has grown rapidly edition after edition, becoming a highly anticipated date for enthusiasts and a way to highlight the network of independent businesses in Pigneto. The project unites wine, territory, and community, showcasing a neighborhood capable of building networks and telling its own story through the culture of drinking well.
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, Pigneto hosted the third edition of Quartiere Vino Pigneto. Pass and branded glass collection began in the early afternoon at two points in the district, including Enoteca SO2 and the point in Piazza Nuccitelli. From there, participants walked between the stands set up in bars, wine shops, and restaurants, where winemakers presented their natural wines.
A new feature of this edition was the VinArt market in Piazza Nuccitelli, dedicated to illustrators, artists, and creatives. There were also free walking tours by the Associazione Bella Storia through the neighborhood's old taverns and an evening after-party with special tastings and DJ sets.
Saturday, May 9, 2026, with ticket offices for pass and glass collection opening in the early afternoon (Enoteca SO2 and Piazza Nuccitelli).
Pigneto is located east of Rome's city center. By metro: Line C, Pigneto stop. Numerous bus and tram lines serve the area (trams 5, 14, and 19 along Via Prenestina/Casilina). Using public transport is highly recommended, as the neighborhood is a restricted traffic zone and parking is scarce during the event.
Entry to the itinerary is via a paid pass (approximately 20 euros), which includes the branded souvenir glass, a wristband, and tastings at the stands. Collection points are located throughout the neighborhood and open in the early afternoon.
Wear comfortable shoes for the walking route, arrive early to avoid queues at the glass collection points, and alternate your tastings with some gastronomic breaks at the participating venues.
