The Piccolo's international theatre festival
Present Indicative | Milan Crossroads is the international theatre festival promoted by Piccolo Teatro di Milano - Teatro d'Europa. Born as a major event dedicated to the contemporary scene, it is configured as a true "festival of festivals": a crossroads that brings the city into dialogue with the most important European reviews, from the Festival d'Avignon to the Ruhrtriennale, from Romaeuropa to the Wiener Festwochen.
The third edition, from May 14 to 30, 2026, takes place in the three historic venues of the Piccolo: the Teatro Strehler, the Teatro Grassi, and the Teatro Studio, in Milan (Province of Milan, Lombardy). The festival opens on May 14, the day that coincides with the Piccolo's anniversary, with a grand opening celebration.
The program brings together some of the most authoritative names on the international scene: the Portuguese Tiago Rodrigues with By Heart, the Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker with BREL (for the first time at the Piccolo), the Polish Łukasz Twarkowski with Oracle, a multimedia work between theatre and technology, and also Caroline Guiela Nguyen and Thomas Verstraeten. Alongside them, associated Italian artists such as Daria Deflorian, Lino Guanciale, Niccolò Fettarappa, and the collective Parini Secondo.
The festival is not just a stage: laPiazza is a meeting space enlivened by DJ sets and live performances, while the international symposium "Public Interest" reflects on the role of the spectator. Site-specific performances are also planned, such as HIT OUT in the Cloister. A program that makes Present Indicative one of the most important theatre events in Europe in Milan.
