The big Carnival party for children and families on the Adriatic seafront
The Carnival of Porto Sant'Elpidio is one of the most anticipated winter events in the Municipality of Porto Sant'Elpidio, on the Adriatic Riviera of the Province of Fermo, in the Marche region. Every year, on Fat Tuesday, the city center transforms into a large open-air stage: a procession of floats, masked groups, and hundreds of participants parades along the main streets, offering a day of colors, music, and joy designed especially for children and families.
The parade traditionally gathers in Via San Francesco, near the train station, and then crosses the streets of the center to reach the heart of the celebration in Piazza Garibaldi. Here, the day concludes with dancing, singing, entertainment, and awards for the most successful floats and groups. The parade actively involves the city's neighborhoods and school complexes, which work for months each year on creating themed floats, costumes, and choreographies.
What makes the Elpidiense Carnival special is the common thread that unites all the groups: each edition proposes a different theme, from historical eras to the continents of the world, interpreted in an original way by the various neighborhoods. This participatory formula, which features kindergartens, primary schools, and neighborhood committees as protagonists, makes the Carnival a true community event, capable of engaging entire generations of Elpidians.
The organization is handled by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Porto Sant'Elpidio, with artistic direction and entertainment entrusted to local organizations. The live broadcast of the day is followed by local radio stations with connections from the square. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is typical of Marche village festivals: carefree, welcoming, and suitable for all ages.
The Carnival of Porto Sant'Elpidio 2026 was held on Tuesday, February 17, Fat Tuesday, with the theme "A Journey Around the World". The parade started at 2:30 PM from the gathering point in Via San Francesco, near the train station.
Six floats and masked groups animated the procession, each dedicated to a continent: America (neighborhoods Marina Picena, Fonte di Mare, and schools De Amicis and Peter Pan), Oceania (neighborhood Corva and Collodi), Africa (San Filippo and School Martiri), Europe (Centro and Pennesi), South America (Cretarola and Mercantini), and Asia (Faleriense and Rodari).
The procession crossed Via Regina Elena, Via Cesare Battisti, Via Piave, Via Marinai d'Italia, Via IV Novembre, and Via Principe Umberto, finally arriving at Piazza Garibaldi. The artistic direction was curated by Lagrรน Ragazzi, with entertainment by Paolo Balestrieri and live broadcast by local radio stations. Free admission.
