Longobard historical re-enactment and the legend of Queen Ponzia
The hamlet of Ponte, an ancient nucleus of Cerreto di Spoleto in the province of Perugia, preserves early medieval memories linked to the presence of the Lombards in Valnerina and the legend of Queen Ponzia. From these roots, Ponte Longobarda — Land of Stories and Legends was born, a historical re-enactment organized by Pro Loco Borgo Cerreto-Ponte APS with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Cerreto di Spoleto and the Umbria Region.
The event alternates cultural and spectacular moments: the inaugural conference with historians, archaeologists, and anthropologists on the Lombard origins of the territory, the workshop on Lombard games for the little ones, falconry demonstrations, duels and costume re-enactments, tastings of typical products, and the evocative dinner with Queen Ponzia accompanied by live music. The weekend concludes with a guided trek to Ponte Castle, exploring the landscape and history of the valley.
Launched in 2023, Ponte Longobarda has grown rapidly, becoming one of the most appreciated late-summer events in Cerreto di Spoleto, capable of combining heritage valorization, educational activities for families, and tourism promotion of a hamlet in the Valnerina valley far from the main tourist flows.
The re-enactment takes place in late summer (between late August and early September) in the hamlet of Ponte, in Cerreto di Spoleto. Some activities, such as dinner and treks, require booking.
Ponte Longobarda — Land of Stories and Legends is expected in summer 2026 for its 4th edition in the hamlet of Ponte, Cerreto di Spoleto, organized by Pro Loco Borgo Cerreto-Ponte APS with the patronage of the Municipality and the Umbria Region.
Following the previous editions, the program will alternate a historical conference, workshops on Lombard games, falconry demonstrations, dinner with Queen Ponzia, and a trek to Ponte Castle. Precise dates and the full schedule will be announced by the Pro Loco.
