The ancient varieties of apples and pears from the Altopiano on display in Lusiana
Pomo Pero is the market exhibition of ancient varieties of apples and pears from Lusiana, a municipality of Lusiana Conco on the Asiago Plateau, in the province of Vicenza. The name, in Cimbrian, refers to the apple tree and the pear tree ('Opfel on Pira'): the event is organised by the association of the same name, active for over fifteen years in the protection of biodiversity.
The heart of the event is the exhibition of ancient varieties of apples and pears from Lusiana and its surroundings, also set up with the contribution of local school students, and the catalogue field with over one hundred ancient varieties present in the area. The market offers apples, pears, Lusiana potatoes, mountain pasture cheeses, honey, artisanal preserves, mountain beer, cider, and wine.
At the 'Mele'n Pero' tasting stand, you can sample apple fritters and juice from ancient apple varieties, while roasted chestnuts and apple pressing liven up the day. There is also the annual conference on the valorisation of historical crops, a guided walk through the orchards, and themed menus in restaurants throughout the week. An event that promotes sustainability and mountain agri-food culture.
The 2026 edition of Pomo Pero is scheduled for Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October 2026 in Lusiana di Lusiana Conco, on the Asiago Plateau, organised by the Opfel on Pira association.
The weekend features the exhibition of ancient varieties of apples and pears from Lusiana and its surroundings, the market of local typical products (apples, pears, Lusiana potatoes, mountain pasture cheeses, honey, preserves, mountain beer, cider, and wine), roasted chestnuts, apple pressing, and the 'Mele'n Pero' stand with apple fritters and juice. Also scheduled are the conference on the valorisation of historical crops and the guided walk through the apple and pear orchards, with themed menus in restaurants throughout the week.
