About Polenta Taragna Festival

In autumn, Spirano, in the province of Bergamo, dedicates three weekends between October and November to polenta taragna at the PalaSpirà in Via Sant'Antonio. The specialty made from corn and buckwheat, enriched with butter and Branzi cheese, is the absolute star, accompanied each evening by music, DJ sets, markets, and entertainment for children. A now-established plain festival with a mountain flavour.

Taragna Warms Up Spirano's Autumn

The Polenta Taragna Festival is one of the most popular autumn gastronomic events in Spirano (Province of Bergamo). It takes place at the PalaSpirà, a covered venue on Via Sant'Antonio, and celebrates one of the symbolic dishes of the Orobic tradition, capable of bringing mountain flavours to the plain.

A Dish of Corn, Buckwheat, and Cheese

Polenta taragna is made from a mixture of corn and buckwheat flour, enriched with butter and cheese. In Spirano, the recipe highlights Branzi FTB cheese, supplied by the historic Caseificio di Branzi, which gives the polenta its typical creaminess. The result is a hearty and distinctive dish, served hot to festival guests.

Music, Markets, and Families

In addition to the food, the festival offers live music and DJ sets every evening, markets, and entertainment for children, in an atmosphere suitable for families and groups. The kitchen is open every evening, with lunch service on Sundays and some other days; given the turnout, multiple sittings and takeaway service are available.

A Well-Established Plain Tradition

Now in its many editions, the Polenta Taragna Festival has become an autumn classic in the Bergamo region and one of the flagship events in Spirano's calendar, attracting visitors from all over the province for three consecutive weekends.
