The evening of pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven at the Gazzola sports field
In the gentle hills of Val Luretta, a few kilometers from Piacenza, the small municipality of Gazzola dedicates a summer evening to the queen of the Italian table: pizza. The Pizza Festival is held at the town's sports field and is the result of a collaboration between the Pro Loco Gazzola and the Amatori Gazzola association, who include it in the program of the so-called youth festival. It's one of those genuine village festivals where the aroma of leavened dough and the wood-fired oven mixes with music and chatter under the summer sky.
The heart of the evening is the pizza cooked in the wood-fired oven, continuously baked by volunteers and served at a popular price. Alongside the food stands, there's beer, cocktails, and an opening aperitif organized by local youngsters. As evening falls, the festival changes pace: first live music, then a DJ set that transforms the sports field into an open-air dance floor, where you can dance until late at night.
Gazzola is a scattered municipality of just over two thousand inhabitants, made up of hamlets like Rivalta, Momeliano, Lisignano, and Tuna, dominated by its castles and the vineyards of the Colli Piacentini. The Pizza Festival is part of a rich calendar of events that enlivens the area throughout the year, and it represents one of the most anticipated moments of the summer: a convivial occasion that focuses on local volunteering, simple flavors, and the pleasure of being together. For those visiting the province of Piacenza in the summer, it's an authentic stop far from mass tourism, in the heart of rural Emilia-Romagna.
The 2026 edition of the Pizza Festival will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the sports field in Gazzola, in the province of Piacenza. This is the second edition of the event, confirmed in the 2026 event calendar of the Municipality of Gazzola and organized by Pro Loco Gazzola together with Amatori Gazzola, on the occasion of the youth festival. This year again, the star will be pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven, accompanied by food stands, drinks, and musical entertainment.
The detailed program of the evening, with times and musical guests, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event on the Pro Loco Gazzola Facebook page.
