The carnival of Pellestrina island
The Pellestrina Carnival enlivens the narrow and fascinating island of Pellestrina, on the southern coast of the Venice lagoon, between Lido and Chioggia. Included in the Venice Carnival calendar, it is a popular festival event that involves the island community and visitors.
Floats and masked groups
The heart of the festival is in Piazza Sant'Antonio, where the allegorical floats are exhibited and serve as a backdrop for the parades of masked groups. The floats, created with passion by local associations, tell different stories through creativity and irony.
Street artists and shows
The entertainment is rich and varied: street artists, jugglers and clowns, giant soap bubbles, fakirs and fire-eaters, comedy sketches, illusionism, and lots of music. The festival traditionally concludes with typical Carnival sweets, frittelle and galani, and a final musical performance.
A community festival
Part of the program of the Carnival of Venice (VE), in Veneto, the Pellestrina Carnival testifies to the vitality of the Carnival traditions of the lagoon islands, animated by the commitment of local associations.
Pellestrina Carnival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Pellestrina Carnival took place on Thursday, February 12, on the island on the Venetian coast, with the static exhibition of floats starting at 3 PM in Piazza Sant'Antonio.
The protagonists were three allegorical floats: "Fasten your seatbelts… The fun is about to begin" by Gruppo Simpatia MUSESTRE, "Beyond appearances" by Luna d'Agosto, and "Open your wings and take flight towards happiness" by Amici di Quarto d'Altino. The festival featured street artists, jugglers and clowns, giant soap bubbles, fakirs and fire-eaters, comedy sketches, illusionism, and music, concluding with typical Carnival sweets.

How to get there
Pellestrina can be reached from Lido di Venezia by ACTV bus and ferry, or from Chioggia by vaporetto/motorboat for the southern lagoon. The island is entirely pedestrian.
