Four days of Ferragosto in Valle Sabbia, with procession, medieval pageant, and Donkey Palio
Mura is a small municipality in Valle Sabbia, in the Province of Brescia, where the patronal feast of Santa Maria Assunta is the event of the year. For four days, around Ferragosto, the village comes alive with a program that blends devotion, gastronomy, music, and folklore, attracting residents and visitors from all over the valley.
The initial days combine the religious dimension with conviviality: the Mass and the procession with the statue of the Madonna open the celebrations, followed by tombola, food stalls, a cocktail bar, and evenings with musical tributes to the great names of Italian song. There's also sport, with the water volleyball tournament animating the afternoons.
The climax is on Ferragosto, August 15th. After the solemn morning Masses and the opening of the food stall, the afternoon sees the medieval pageant come to life with kings, queens, pages, flag-wavers, and costumed villagers. It's the prelude to the most awaited moment: the Donkey Palio, a challenge between the village districts which, in recent editions, has reached its 28th running. The evening concludes with dinner, music, a fireworks display, and a lottery draw. For Mura, these feasts are much more than a recurrence: they are the heart of the identity of a village in the Brescian mountains.
