Cesate celebrates its patron saint Sant'Alessandro at the end of August
In the municipality of Cesate (Province of Milan, Lombardy), the Patronal Feast of Sant'Alessandro is the most important religious anniversary of the year. The patron saint, Saint Alessandro the Martyr โ a figure linked to the devotional tradition of the Milanese and Bergamascan area โ is celebrated at the end of August with a feast organised by the San Paolo VI Pastoral Community, which brings together the town's parishes in a single pastoral journey.
The heart of the feast is religious: the Solemn Holy Mass opens the celebrations, followed by the Eucharistic celebration dedicated to the sick, a moment of particular attention towards the most vulnerable members of the community. The torchlight procession, with its illuminated procession through the town's streets in the evening, is one of the most evocative and anticipated moments: a river of lights accompanying the image of the patron saint in an atmosphere of intense reflection.
Alongside the religious celebrations, the feast offers moments of meeting and conviviality, with refreshments, food stalls, and initiatives that continue until the following weekend. It is an occasion for the community of Cesate to come together around its patron saint and its traditions, in an event that, despite being on the outskirts of Milan and in the heart of the hinterland, retains the warmth, participation, and authenticity of village festivals of the past.
The 2026 edition of the Patronal Feast of Sant'Alessandro in Cesate takes place from August 26 to 31, organised by the San Paolo VI Pastoral Community. The religious programme includes the Solemn Mass on August 26, the Eucharistic celebration with the sick on the 27th, and the torchlight procession on August 31. The festivities extend to the following weekend, with moments of conviviality and refreshments.
The festivities continue the following weekend. The detailed programme is published by the San Paolo VI Pastoral Community.
