The patronal week of the Castle village, on the outskirts of Milan
Saints Fermo and Rustico, martyrs from Verona, are the patron saints of Cusago, a municipality in the province of Milan known for its picturesque Visconti Castle overlooking the central square. The village parish church is dedicated to them, and the patronal feast, held in early May, is the most anticipated event in the local religious and civil calendar.
An element that makes Cusago's festival special is its connection to Saint Vincent, a martyr from Roman times whose relics have been kept in the parish church since at least 1685, a gift from Pope Alexander VIII. During the patronal week, the urn containing the relics is displayed for the veneration of the faithful, in a ritual that has been repeated for over three centuries.
The festival program combines religious moments and community initiatives: the solemn mass, the charity raffle to support parish activities, the second-hand market, activities for children from the oratory, and, as a culmination, the solemn procession through the village streets with the urn of relics, accompanied by the brass band.
The setting for the festival is the historic center of Cusago, gathered around the Visconti Castle, one of the favorite hunting lodges of the Visconti and Sforza families in the Duchy of Milan. Participating in the patronal feast is also an opportunity to discover this elegant and little-known village, just a few kilometers from the metropolis but immersed in the countryside of the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano.
The 2026 edition of the patronal feast of Saints Fermo and Rustico enlivens Cusago from May 4 to 10. Seven days of events alternating moments of faith and community initiatives, with the exhibition of the urn containing the relics of Saint Vincent, kept in the parish church of Cusago since the 17th century, at the center.
The 2026 program will be detailed by the parish church closer to the festival. Based on tradition and official announcements:
Cusago is just a few kilometers from the Milan West Ring Road (exit towards Cusago/Cisliano) and is connected to the provincial capital by intercity bus lines. The heart of the festival is the parish church of Saints Fermo and Rustico and the Castle square.
The festival takes place during the first week of May. Religious services and community events have free admission; the charity raffle and the second-hand market support the parish activities.
