The Patron Saint of Villamarzana
The Patronal Feast of Saint Stephen I is the most cherished event in Villamarzana, a municipality in the province of Rovigo in the heart of Polesine. The patron saint is Saint Stephen I, Pope: born in Rome, he was a priest when in 254 he succeeded Pope Saint Lucius I, and is venerated as a martyr of the early Church. His liturgical feast day falls on August 2nd, the day the community gathers around its protector.
