Four days of faith, tradition, and entertainment in the historic center of Cerveteri
The Patronal Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel is the most cherished event in the calendar of Cerveteri, a town on the coast north of Rome in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio. For four days in early May, the historic center of the ancient Etruscan Caere transforms into a vibrant stage for faith, folk traditions, and entertainment, with a program curated by the Pro Loco of Cerveteri in collaboration with the Municipality of Cerveteri and the local districts (Rioni).
The religious heart of the festival is the solemn procession featuring the statue of the Patron Saint, which winds through the town streets accompanied by the Cerite Band, followed by Holy Mass presided over by the Bishop. It is a moment of deep popular participation, renewing the profound bond between the Cerveteri community and its protector, the Archangel Michael, every year.
A major highlight is the competition between the Rioni (districts) of Cerveteri, who vie for victory in traditional contests: the stesa race, the best and most beautiful dessert competition, and the colorful cart parade. It is an occasion that keeps the spirit of belonging and healthy rivalry between neighborhoods alive, filled with colors, decorations, and ancient customs.
The evenings are animated by live music and DJ sets, local bands, aerial dance performances, children's theater with the Margot Theatre Association, and musical carousels. The grand finale is marked by a fireworks display illuminating the town's sky, preceded by tribute concerts that have honored the legends of Italian music over the years.
The festival is intertwined with the unique identity of Cerveteri, a city of Etruscan art and home to the Banditaccia Necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. During these same days, the area also hosts cultural and literary events, enriching an appointment that combines spirituality, local gastronomy, craftsmanship, and fun for all ages.
The 2026 Patronal Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel brought Cerveteri to life from May 7 to 10, with a rich program spread throughout the historic center. Faith, tradition, and entertainment alternated for four days, involving local districts, associations, and the community.
Cerveteri is located about 45 km north of Rome. By car, it can be reached via the A12 Rome-Civitavecchia motorway (Cerveteri-Ladispoli exit) or the Via Aurelia (SS1). By train, the reference station is Marina di Cerveteri-Ladispoli on the Rome-Pisa line, connected to the town center by local buses.
The festival takes place in the historic center, and street events are free to attend. For the detailed program and updated schedules, we recommend consulting the Municipality of Cerveteri website and the Pro Loco of Cerveteri social media channels.
