The Patron Saint's Feast on the Banks of the Po

The Patronal Feast of Saint George is the spring event celebrating the patron saint of Arena Po, a village in the Oltrepò Pavese region nestled on the banks of the Po River, in the province of Pavia. For two days, the town centre comes alive with music, flavours, and rural tradition, in one of the most cherished festivals of the lower Po Valley.

Two Days of Music and Tradition

The programme kicks off on Saturday evening with live music in the town centre and continues on Sunday with a day entirely dedicated to the feast:

• Display of farmyard animals at Palazzo Mandelli
• Exhibition of vintage tractors and historical agricultural equipment
• Pro Loco food stand with local specialties
• Funfair for children
• Evening fireworks display to conclude the celebrations

Flavours of the River and the Oltrepò

The protagonist of the feast is traditional cuisine: the food stand offers fried frogs, river fish, and homemade traditional dishes, paired with wines from the Oltrepò Pavese. A menu that tells the story of the deep connection between Arena Po and its river.

Art and Heritage

The feast is also linked to the village's heritage, with the Romanesque church of San Giorgio Martire and the open-air contemporary art museum MAAPO, whose installations are freely accessible. An opportunity to discover a lesser-known but authentic corner of the province of Pavia.
