The patron saint of Vinchiaturo
The Patronal Feast of Saint Bernardino of Siena is the most important celebration of the year for Vinchiaturo, a village in the province of Campobasso. It traditionally takes place around May 19th and 20th and is organized by the Parish and the Municipal Administration, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Campobasso-Bojano and local associations.
Faith and processions
The feast is preceded by a preparatory novena and culminates in solemn masses and processions with the statue of the saint through the streets of the town center, accompanied by the musical band and fireworks. The celebrations are attended by religious and civil authorities and also attract many emigrants back to the village, in a moment of strong identity for the community.
Between tradition and spectacle
Alongside the religious rites, the feast offers concerts, cultural events, and popular Molise traditions such as the Pezza de Casce, a competition with a wheel of cheese that also involves children. It is a feast that unites the spiritual dimension with the popular one, renewing the bond between Vinchiaturo and its patron saint.
San Bernardino Vinchiaturo — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Feast of Saint Bernardino of Siena in Vinchiaturo was held from May 10th to 20th, with the preparatory novena and the two main days of May 19th and 20th. The solemn mass on the 19th was presided over by the Archbishop of Campobasso-Bojano Msgr. Biagio Colaianni, while the meeting with young people was attended by Msgr. Bruno Varriano, Bishop of Cyprus and a native of Vinchiaturo.
The days alternated between processions with a band and fireworks, moments of popular tradition such as the children's Pezza de Casce and the opening of the Museum of Migrations, culminating in the evening concert by Marco Morandi.
