The patron saint's week in Porto San Giorgio: fair, procession, street food, and big concerts on the seafront.
The Patron Saint George Festival is the most cherished event in the calendar of Porto San Giorgio, a lively seaside town in the Province of Fermo, in the Marche region. Every spring, around April 23rd, the feast day of Saint George the Martyr, the Municipality and the community come together for a week of celebrations that intertwine religious devotion, popular tradition, and a rich programme of cultural and musical events. It is a festival that unites the ancient heart of the seaside town with its tourist vocation, symbolically marking the beginning of the warm season on the Fermo Riviera.
The most solemn moment is the procession on April 23rd, with the traditional blessing of the sea in Piazza Silenzi, preceded by celebrations in the church of Saint George the Martyr and followed by Holy Mass. Alongside the religious dimension, the festival has always offered a more popular and festive side: the Grand Concert Band of the City of Porto San Giorgio, the awarding of the Sangiorgese of the Year prize to the personality who has distinguished themselves for the community, exhibitions, theatrical performances, and lots of music in the town squares.
The commercial and popular heart of the festival is the historic Saint George Fair, one of the largest and most anticipated in the area, with over two hundred stalls filling the streets of the centre for an entire day, from early morning until evening. Typical products, crafts, clothing, sweets, and gastronomic specialities attract thousands of visitors from all over the Province of Fermo, in a great festive atmosphere that launches the city towards summer.
In recent years, the festival has been enriched with a popular musical programme, featuring free concerts in Piazza Matteotti with nationally renowned guests, 90s DJ sets, and performances by local artists. Along Viale Buozzi, International Street Food arrives, with dozens of food trucks offering international and Italian cuisine. The grand finale is traditionally marked by a major concert followed by fireworks on the central stretch of the seafront, in one of the most picturesque spots on the Marche coast.
More than just a religious observance, the Patron Saint George Festival has become an identity event for Porto San Giorgio and the entire Fermo territory. Between masses, processions, the fair, exhibitions, and shows, it involves families, tourists, and delegations from twin towns, confirming itself as one of the unmissable spring events in the Marche region.
The 2026 edition of the Patron Saint George Festival in Porto San Giorgio was spread over several days, from April 18th to 26th, alternating devotion, tradition, and entertainment. The 37th Saint George Fair enlivened the centre on Sunday, April 19th, while the patron's day, April 23rd, saw the solemn procession with the blessing of the sea and the awarding of the Sangiorgese of the Year prize. The weekend brought international street food, DJ sets, the Humanity Music festival in tribute to Mango, and the grand finale concert by Fausto Leali with fireworks.
The events take place in the centre of Porto San Giorgio (Province of Fermo, Marche): the fair in the town's streets, the procession in Piazza Silenzi, the concerts in Piazza Matteotti, and the street food along Viale Buozzi.
By car: A14 motorway (exit Porto San Giorgio-Fermo), then SS16 Adriatica. By train: Porto San Giorgio-Fermo station is on the Bologna-Bari Adriatic line, a few minutes' walk from the centre. Nearest airport: Ancona-Falconara (AOI).
