The final stage of the national para climbing circuit at the Fulvio Bernardini sports complex in Pietralata
The Para Climbing Italian Cup is the national sport climbing circuit reserved for athletes with physical or visual disabilities, organized by the FASI โ Italian Sport Climbing Federation. Its final stage takes place in Rome, in the capital city of the Lazio Region, hosted by the UISPROMA Work in Progress climbing center within the municipal sports facility Fulvio Bernardini, in the Pietralata district.
This is no ordinary stage: it is the event that awards not only the day's medals but also the overall Italian Cup titles, by aggregating the scores collected in the previous rounds of the circuit. For many athletes, it is also the final competitive test before the start of the international World Cup season.
The Pietralata facility is one of the most comprehensive in Central-Southern Italy. The climbing center offers:
It is on these walls that the qualification and final routes are set, specifically designed for the various para climbing classifications.
The competition is organized into internationally recognized classes, grouping athletes based on the type and degree of functional limitation: B1, B2, and B3 categories for athletes with visual impairments, AU2, AL1, and AL2 categories for upper and lower limb amputations, and RP1, RP2, and RP3 categories for athletes with reduced power, strength, or range of motion. In recent years, new Open Physical and Open Visual categories have been added to accommodate athletes with significant functional limitations who do not fall under official classifications. To participate, athletes must be regularly classified and registered through the federal system.
The Roman event goes beyond the competition. Surrounding the competition walls are demonstrations of therapeutic climbing organized by local associations, along with presentations on the methodology of climbing therapy, which uses the wall as a tool for rehabilitation and personal growth. The presence of the Italian Paralympic Committee and its regional delegations reinforces the event's core message: sport as a concrete tool for inclusion and social cohesion.
Italian para climbing is among the most competitive in the world, and the Italian Cup serves as its domestic showcase. The participation in the Rome stage, with about forty athletes from across the peninsulaโfrom Piedmont to Trentino-Alto Adige, from Lombardy to Emilia-Romagna, and Lazioโconfirms the movement's constant growth. For the Roman public, it is a completely free opportunity to discover a spectacular discipline up close and witness finals that are often decided by a single hold.
After the first two stages held in Milan between March and April, the 2026 Para Climbing Italian Cup circuit concluded in Rome on Saturday, May 2, on the walls of the UISPROMA Work in Progress climbing center, within the Fulvio Bernardini sports complex in Pietralata. About forty athletes representing clubs from all over Italy competed.
The stage awarded the day's medals and, with them, the overall 2026 Italian Cup titles in ten categories. Among the protagonists, Lucia Capovilla (Fiamme Oro) secured her third consecutive gold in the AU2 category, and David Kammerer (AVS Bruneck) did the same in the AL2 category. In the RP1 category, victory went to Gian Matteo Ramini (Four Climbers) ahead of Matteo Pirani (CUS Torino) and Edoardo Barra (MilanoArrampicata); in the women's category, a third consecutive gold for Maria Laura Muratori (PGS Welcome), followed by Giulia Savini (MilanoArrampicata) and Sara Ghisleni (Just Climb!). On Sunday, May 3, a national team gathering took place, open to athletes who had participated in the competition, led by the Italian para climbing technical staff.
