About Palio di San Vigilio

Every year, in June, Alpago gathers around the Palio di San Vigilio, the great patronal feast that pits the three historical souls of the territory against each other: Farra, Pieve, and Puos. For days, the hamlets compete for supremacy in a series of sports tournaments and popular challenges, including football, volleyball, touch rugby, tennis, a cycling race, and the inevitable tug-of-war. More than a competition, it is the moment when the entire Alpago basin, at the foot of the Belluno Prealps, rediscovers its most authentic identity.

The Palio that tells the story of Alpago

The Palio di San Vigilio is the patronal feast of the Municipality of Alpago, in the heart of the province of Belluno. It traditionally takes place in June, around the feast day of San Vigilio, and transforms the Alpago basin into a large playing field where local communities challenge each other with sports and team spirit.

Three hamlets, one identity

The tournament features the three entities that make up the territory: Farra, Pieve, and Puos. The residents of the respective communities take to the field for each team, in an entirely friendly rivalry rooted in the history of Alpago, a land of ancient municipalities now united under a single administration.

Disciplines in competition

The program alternates numerous disciplines: football, volleyball, touch rugby, tennis, a cycling race, and the traditional tug-of-war, a symbolic event that brings together young and old. The evenings combine sport with conviviality, with stands and festive moments animating the villages of Alpago.

A Belluno tradition

Organized by the Pro Loco Puos d'Alpago, the Palio is one of the most keenly felt events of the summer in the Belluno pre-Alpine area, a stone's throw from Lake Santa Croce and the Dolomites. For visitors to the area, it is the ideal opportunity to discover the authenticity of a mountainous Veneto made of communities, traditions, and landscapes.

Palio di San Vigilio โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Palio di San Vigilio is scheduled for June, with the usual challenges between the hamlets of Farra, Pieve, and Puos. The precise dates and tournament program will be announced by the Pro Loco Puos d'Alpago.

The Palio di San Vigilio returns to Alpago in June 2026, reviving the challenge between the three communities of the territory. Local press (Corriere delle Alpi) has confirmed the willingness of the Belluno Pro Loco associations to keep the traditional summer events of Alpago on the calendar.

The precise dates and details of the sports disciplines will be announced by the Pro Loco Puos d'Alpago in the weeks preceding the event.
