The challenge between the four districts of Arsago Seprio
The Palio dei Rioni of Arsago Seprio is the historic event that, every year in June, ignites friendly rivalry between the four districts of the municipality in the province of Varese: San Rocco, San Vittore, Santa Maria, and Longobardi. For a week, the town transforms into a large playing field, with evening races at the oratory and challenges through the streets of the center.
The palio was established in 1974 and revived in 2015 after a long break. Today it is organized by the association I Rioni Arsaghesi ODV, which manages every aspect with the aim of promoting community cohesion and preserving local heritage in its natural, cultural, artistic, historical, and gastronomic dimensions.
The event combines folkloristic, historical, and cultural elements with the competitive dimension: the trials test the districts' skills, teamwork, and creativity, in a spirit of healthy rivalry. The overall standings, updated year after year, fuel the districts' passion for winning the palio.
More than just a competition, the Palio dei Rioni is a moment of identity for Arsago Seprio, a village with ancient Lombard origins. Registrations traditionally open in May, during the Feast of San Vittore, in anticipation of the week of races in June.
