A Palio Amidst the Hills of Perugia
The Palio Arnense takes place in Ripa, a hamlet of Perugia located about 313 meters above sea level and about fifteen kilometers from the city center. The event is managed by the Pro Loco of Ripa and has its roots in the ancient festival of Sant'Antonio Abate, documented in the village since 1593 and linked to the two parish churches of the town.
History and Re-enactment
The Palio Arnense is a late-Renaissance re-enactment that intertwines the religious and agricultural dimensions of the patronal feast with historical reconstruction. For the duration of the event, the village comes alive with costumes, atmospheres, and moments that tell the story of past life in the Perugian countryside.
Taverns and Castle Visits
Among the week's events are evening dinners in the taverns featuring traditional dishes and theatricalized visits to the castle, with the participation of actors. An opportunity to discover a lesser-known hamlet of Perugia and its heritage of popular traditions, in an authentic setting far from mass tourist circuits.
Palio Arnense — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Palio Arnense, the twenty-ninth, enlivens the hamlet of Ripa di Perugia from June 15th to 21st. Organized by the Pro Loco of Ripa, the late-Renaissance re-enactment recalls the ancient festival of Sant'Antonio Abate.
The program includes dinners in the taverns every evening of the event and theatricalized visits to the castle with actor Carlo Dalla Costa, scheduled for June 16th, 18th, and 22nd. The village transforms into a period set with costumes, music, and traditions of the Perugian countryside.

How to Get There
Ripa is a hamlet of Perugia, about 15 km from the center, reachable by car along the hilly roads east of the provincial capital. From the center of Perugia, follow the signs for Ripa.
