Classical music within the historic walls of Alvito, under the banner of "Music is Sentiment"
In the heart of Alvito, a hilltop village in the Comino Valley, in the province of Frosinone, the Palazzo Gallio Classical Music Festival brings great classical music within the walls of one of the most beautiful historic palaces in southern Lazio. The festival is defined by the theme "Music is Sentiment," a poetic statement that focuses on emotion and the power of music to speak directly to the audience, transcending eras and styles.
The festival is hosted in the Gallery of Palazzo Gallio, also known as the Ducal Palace, the historic seat of the Alvito Town Hall. The building is named after the Gallio family, who held Alvito and much of the Comino Valley as a fiefdom from 1595 to 1795; it was built in stages starting from the late 16th century and remains the symbol of the village today. Its frescoed halls, monumental atrium, and grand staircase offer a rare and evocative setting for concerts, where listening to live music intertwines with the discovery of local artistic heritage.
The event is organized by the "Vivere Musica" Cultural Association of Alvito, under the artistic direction of Luigi Viglietta and with the patronage of the Municipality of Alvito. The festival benefits from the collaboration of the "Chorus Inside Lazio APS" association and, above all, the participation of the Licinio Refice Conservatory of Frosinone: many of the concerts are entrusted to ensembles of young instrumentalists, in a project that combines the promotion of the territory with the training of new generations of musicians.
The program focuses on classical and romantic chamber repertoire, featuring string formations, piano, and small ensembles. In past editions, the festival has presented works by Robert Schumannโincluding the famous Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44, and the Romances for violin and piano, Op. 94โperformed by young artists. The intimate scale and high quality of the listening experience make every evening an opportunity to rediscover great chamber music masterpieces in a unique and unconventional setting.
The Classical Music Festival is part of the rich summer cultural offering of Alvito and the entire Comino Valley, one of the most authentic corners of southern Lazio, nestled among the mountains that mark the border with Abruzzo. For visitors, a concert at Palazzo Gallio is also an opportunity to discover a charming village, its medieval historic center, and the hospitable traditions of this territory, where quality music engages in a dialogue with history and the landscape.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the Gallery of Palazzo Gallio in Alvito hosted a new event of the Classical Music Festival, the series promoted by the "Vivere Musica" Cultural Association under the theme "Music is Sentiment." Once again, the festival confirmed its mission: to bring the great classical and romantic chamber repertoire into a historic setting of rare beauty, in the heart of the Comino Valley, in the province of Frosinone.
The concert proved to be a refined listening experience on a village scale, featuring young instrumentalists and maintaining the customary bond with the local area and the musical institutions of southern Lazio.
