Rovigo's historic fair, uninterrupted since 1482
The Fiera d'Ottobre di Rovigo is the most anticipated event of Ottobre Rodigino, the extensive programme of events organised every autumn by the Municipality of Rovigo in the capital of the Polesine region, in Veneto. The fair has been held without interruption since 1482, the year the city became part of the Republic of Venice, making it one of the oldest in Italy.
The highlight is the "Marti Franco" (Free Tuesday), the first Tuesday after October 20th: a day of free market trade whose tradition dates back to the 17th century. Four days of festivities are concentrated around this date, closing the historic centre to traffic and filling it with life.
Hundreds of stalls line the streets and squares of the centre: typical crafts, antiques, food and wine products, the "children's market", and the unmistakable scent of caramelised almonds. The large funfair is located in the Censer area. The Ottobre Rodigino programme accompanies the fair throughout the month with exhibitions, music, conferences, and sporting events, enlivening Rovigo and the entire Polesine region.
The 2026 edition of Ottobre Rodigino renews the tradition of the Fiera d'Ottobre in Rovigo, now in its 542nd year. The four days of the fair revolve around the Marti Franco, which in 2026 falls on Tuesday, October 27th. The historic centre is closed to traffic and filled with stalls, food stands, and attractions, while the funfair is set up in the Censer area. Throughout the month, the Ottobre Rodigino programme offers exhibitions, music, conferences, and sporting events.
Throughout the month, the Ottobre Rodigino programme complements the fair with exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and sporting events in the city. The official schedule and poster for the 542nd edition can be found at ottobrerodigino.it and on the Municipality of Rovigo's website. The exact dates are confirmed by the organisers shortly before the event.
Rovigo is on the A13 Bologna-Padova motorway and on the Bologna-Padova and Verona-Rovigo railway lines. During the fair, the historic centre is closed to traffic: it is advisable to use the peripheral car parks and reach the centre on foot.
