The jazz festival closing the Tones Teatro Natura season, nestled among the rocks of the Val d'Ossola
In the heart of the Val d'Ossola, in the hamlet of Oira in Crevoladossola (Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, Piedmont), a former marble quarry has become one of Italy's most unique stages: the Tones Teatro Natura. Here, at the beginning of every September, Ossola in Jazz and beyond takes the stage, the festival that closes the summer season by turning the stone amphitheater into a true open-air jazz club at the foot of the Alps.
Ossola in Jazz was born from the idea of exploring the infinite trajectories of a genre in constant evolution. The program brings together big names from the national jazz scene and new talents, alternating classic concerts with crossover and electronic proposals. It is a way to tell the story of jazz in its many facets, in a place that amplifies every note thanks to the natural acoustics of the quarry and the mountain setting.
The theater is managed by the Tones on the Stones Foundation, an organization with over twenty years of experience in producing shows in natural spaces, under the artistic direction of Maddalena Calderoni. The former Cava Roncino has been reclaimed and transformed into a permanent outdoor theater, where music, dance, theater, and visual arts meet throughout the summer. Ossola in Jazz is the final chapter of a calendar that brings original productions and prominent guests to the Val d'Ossola every year.
The typical day goes beyond just listening: the sets are often accompanied by social moments with aperitifs and tastings from local producers, combining great music with the flavors of Ossola. The audience reaches the theater spaces immersed in nature, living an experience that weaves together landscape, culture, and local gastronomy.
For those visiting Piedmont and the Lake District, Ossola in Jazz and beyond is a rare opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Ossola mountains through the universal language of jazz. The combination of such a unique stage, careful programming, and a natural setting of great beauty makes this festival an unmissable late-summer stop.
