The Ospedaletto Carnival: A village celebration in Valsugana

The Ospedaloto Carnival is the signature carnival event of the small town of Ospedaletto, nestled at the gateway to the Val Bronzale, amidst the vineyards and pine forests of the lower Valsugana valley in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). The dialect name "Ospedaloto" reflects the local speech of this village of fewer than eight hundred inhabitants, which owes its name to an ancient hospice for travelers and pilgrims along the Via Claudia Augusta.

A folk tradition curated by the Pro Loco

The festival is organized by the Pro Loco Ospedaletto, which brings the village to life every year during the Carnival season. The heart of the event is the Piazzale della Canonica, next to the parish church of Sant'Egidio, where masked groups from the village and the surrounding area gather in the early afternoon. Confetti, streamers, music, and a shared sense of community transform the square into a celebration open to children, families, and adults, in the true spirit of a Trentino Carnival.

Masks, colors, and surprises for everyone

True to the tradition of village carnivals in the Valsugana and Lagorai regions, the Ospedaloto Carnival focuses on participation: every year, the Pro Loco offers surprises for all the masked groups that parade and liven up the square. It is a genuine, community-focused carnival, far from the massive floats of the cities, yet rich in the warm, familiar atmosphere that characterizes Trentino village festivals.

In the heart of Valsugana

Ospedaletto is one of the last municipalities in Trentino before the border with Veneto, famous for its picturesque Ponte dell'Orco and the church of Sant'Egidio. The Carnival is part of the rich calendar of events in the Valsugana and Lagorai area, which hosts masquerade parties, confetti, and traditional "bigolade" in village squares during the Carnival season. Attending the Ospedaloto Carnival means experiencing an authentic celebration in a quiet, green corner of eastern Trentino.
