About ORMA Orchestra Macerata

ORMA – Orchestra Macerata is the annual concert season of the city orchestra of Macerata, promoted by the Municipality and recognized by the Ministry of Culture and the Marche Region. An articulated program that spans anniversaries in music history, monographic projects, chamber music, orchestral activities, and educational initiatives. Concerts are held at the Teatro Lauro Rossi and in other cultural spaces in the city, from the Teatro della Filarmonica to the Auditorium dell'Asilo Ricci, featuring prominent soloists and young talents from the national and international scene.

A classical music season in the heart of Macerata

The ORMA – Orchestra Macerata Concert Season is one of the most anticipated events in the cultural life of the provincial capital. Promoted by the Municipality of Macerata and recognized by the Ministry of Culture and the Marche Region, the series brings a program of classical music to the historic center of the city, ranging from the symphonic repertoire to chamber music, from monographic projects dedicated to great composers to initiatives designed for schools.

The ORMA project

ORMA is Macerata's city orchestra, an established artistic project that has built a loyal audience and a recognizable identity over the years. The programming is divided into several strands: major anniversaries in music history, monographic projects, chamber music, orchestral activities, and educational activities for children. A formula that combines artistic quality and local roots, with the aim of making great music accessible to the entire Macerata community.

The 2026 program, dedicated to Mozart

The 2026 edition, running from January to May, opened with a focus on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, celebrating the 270th anniversary of his birth. Among the main events:

  • Homage to Mozart – Sunday, January 18, 5:30 PM, Teatro Lauro Rossi: pianist Alberto Cingolani with the ORMA orchestra, for a program featuring the Piano Concerto in A major K 414, Adagio and Fugue, and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.
  • Chinese New Year – Paganini Prize 2024 – February 17, 9:15 PM, Teatro Lauro Rossi: Simon Zhu on violin and Simone Rugani on piano, with music by Mozart, Beethoven, and Franck.
  • Chamber Music – February 20, 9:15 PM, Teatro della Filarmonica: Leonora Armellini on piano and Matteo Calosci on violin, with Beethoven and Grieg.
  • Chopin Recital – March 27, 8:00 PM, Auditorium dell'Asilo Ricci: pianist Paolo Rinaldi, with monographic projects.
  • Figaro, the barber of the happy farm – educational project for preschools in the province, based on music by Rossini.

The venues of the season

The heart of the series is the 18th-century Teatro Lauro Rossi, an Italian-style jewel overlooking Piazza della Libertà, but the concerts also reach the Teatro della Filarmonica and the Auditorium dell'Asilo Ricci, highlighting the various cultural spaces in the historic center of Macerata.

Macerata, city of music

The ORMA season is part of a long-standing musical tradition that makes Macerata, in the Marche region, one of the capitals of classical music in Italy: from the Sferisterio with the renowned Macerata Opera Festival to the numerous city events. A program that confirms the provincial capital's vocation for great music, twelve months a year.
