About Organ Marathon

In Paderno Ponchielli, the birthplace of composer Amilcare Ponchielli, the historic 1873 Inzoli organ takes centre stage again with the Organ Marathon: an entire day of concerts held one after another in the church of San Dalmazio. Organists of national and international renown take turns at the keyboard of an instrument inaugurated by Ponchielli himself and restored in 2019, in a musical and cultural tribute that enhances the organ heritage and the memory of the great composer, in the heart of the Cremona countryside, in the province of Cremona.

The Ponchielli Organ

The Organ Marathon of Paderno Ponchielli, in the province of Cremona, celebrates one of the territory's musical treasures: the historic 1873 Inzoli organ, housed in the archpriestal parish church of San Dalmazio. Built by organ builder Pacifico Inzoli of Crema, the instrument was inaugurated on 25 September 1873 by Amilcare Ponchielli himself, the famous composer native to the town, along with the renowned organist Vincenzo Petrali. Restored in 2019, it is now fully back in the spotlight.

A Marathon of Concerts

The event offers a true marathon of music: for several hours, concerts follow one another, allowing appreciation of the sounds and versatility of the Inzoli organ. Organists of national and international calibre take turns at the keyboard, presenting programmes that span the great organ repertoire, with particular attention to Ponchielli's music.

Music and Territorial Identity

The event, linked to the Ponchielliano Museum, is a tribute to the memory of the composer and the musical heritage of Paderno Ponchielli. The Organ Marathon combines the enhancement of a historic instrument with the rediscovery of a central figure in Italian opera, offering an audience of enthusiasts and the curious a unique listening opportunity in the heart of the Cremona countryside.
