About Oregano Festival

Campochiaro, "the village of oregano", dedicates a festival to its most famous product: the wild oregano that grows spontaneously on the slopes of the Matese. Between tastings of flavored dishes, food stands, and the discovery of a historical excellence of the territory, the festival enhances a tradition that today lives again thanks to the Oros Ganao project.

The village of oregano

Campochiaro, a small village of just over five hundred inhabitants in the province of Campobasso, is known as "the village of oregano". On the slopes of the Matese, a wild oregano with recognized gustatory value grows spontaneously, a true aromatic signature of this corner of Molise. The Oregano Festival was created to celebrate it and make it known to a wider audience.

A tradition that lives again

The oregano of Campochiaro is now at the center of the Oros Ganao project — from the Greek name for oregano — born from the collaboration between local producers to enhance the historic aroma of the Matese and create dedicated products. The festival is part of this rediscovery path, accompanying the tasting with the story of an excellence that is part of the village's identity.

Taste and territory

During the festival, you can taste traditional Molisan dishes flavored with oregano, from typical products to home recipes. It is also an opportunity to visit Campochiaro and the Matese Regional Park, amidst nature, history, and authentic flavors of the province of Campobasso.
