Music, theatre, dance, and cinema spread across the Vesuvian Villas and the Golden Mile
The Open Festival - Ercolano in Places and Art is a cultural event that, as the name suggests, opens the doors of the city of Ercolano (Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania), transforming it into a grand open-air stage. For nine days, the festival brings music, theatre, dance, street art, and cinema to historic and symbolic locations across the area, aiming to connect the famous Vesuvian Villas of the Golden Mile with urban spaces recently reclaimed from decay and returned to the community.
The festival is organized by the Municipality of Ercolano and curated by the La Bazzarra association, with artistic direction by Gigi Di Luca and the support of the Campania Region. The 2026 edition, the fourth, featured 14 events spread across 12 historic locations, all strictly free of charge until capacity is reached.
The program ranges from singer-songwriter music to jazz, from itinerant theatre to contemporary dance, and from circus arts to open-air cinema. Past editions have featured prominent names from the Italian music scene such as Eugenio Bennato, pianist Danilo Rea, saxophonist and composer Daniele Sepe, and singer-actress Antonella Morea. Alongside major concerts, street performances, tableaux vivants, sensory experiences, and film screenings animate squares, churches, 18th-century villas, and even the Vesuvius Observatory, the oldest volcanological observatory in the world.
What makes the Open Festival special is its widespread nature: events are not concentrated in a single theatre but traverse the city, inviting the public to rediscover the architectural and landscape treasures of Ercolano. Villa Campolieto, a masterpiece designed by Luigi Vanvitelli, the Golden Mile Urban Park, the squares, and the coastline become the backdrop for a continuous spectacle where the beauty of the locations engages with the performing arts.
Thanks to its free admission and varied program, the Open Festival appeals to a wide and diverse audience: families, music lovers, cinephiles, tourists, and locals. It is an opportunity to experience Ercolano in a new light between spring and early summer, and to rediscover the cultural and identity-driven value of a unique territory suspended between Mount Vesuvius and the sea.
The fourth edition of the Open Festival - Ercolano in Places and Art was held from May 28 to June 7, 2026, with 14 events spread across 12 historic and symbolic locations in the Vesuvian city, all free of charge until capacity was reached. Organized by the Municipality of Ercolano and curated by La Bazzarra, with artistic direction by Gigi Di Luca, the festival wove together music, theatre, dance, street art, and cinema among the Vesuvian Villas of the Golden Mile, the squares, and the coastline.
Among the protagonists were the concert by Daniele Sepe with the historic ACMT band of Torre del Greco, the solo piano performance by Danilo Rea with the "Lirico" show, and Eugenio Bennato with "Briganti del presente" on June 2nd. There were also the tableaux vivants by the Ludovica Rambelli Teatro company at Villa Campolieto and the concert "La musica di altri mondi" with Antonella Morea, Lello Giulivo, and Mimmo Maglionico.
Ercolano is easily accessible from Naples via the Circumvesuviana railway (Naples-Sorrento line, Ercolano Scavi stop). By car, take the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway and exit at Ercolano. The Vesuvian Villas and the Golden Mile are located along Corso Resina.
All events are free of charge, subject to availability.
Performances take place in various locations throughout the city: it is recommended to check the detailed program published by the Municipality of Ercolano in advance and to arrive early, especially for concerts by major guests.
