Traditional flavors in the courtyard of the San Giovanni Paolo II parish

The Oasi Festival is the most anticipated gastronomic event for the San Giovanni Paolo II parish community in Villaricca, a town north of Naples in the Campania region. Every September, the parish courtyard fills with long tables, mouth-watering aromas, and lively chatter. As the local press notes, it is a festival that celebrates «authentic flavors, the kind that have always nurtured generations of local youth amidst smiles and carefree days».
The festival is not an isolated event; it is part of the civil program for the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Hope, the Marian devotion that gave its name to the neighborhood's first small prefabricated church, later replaced by the parish dedicated to Saint John Paul II, established in January 2013. Alongside liturgical moments—such as celebrations, processions, and prayer services—the community has organized these festive evenings in the church square for many years. Historically, the civil program included the traditional «Vendita» (an auction of goods donated by the faithful), a majorette parade accompanied by a band, and a fireworks display to close the festivities.
The heart of the event is the popular cuisine of the Neapolitan hinterland, prepared by parish volunteers using strictly homemade products:
The festival takes place in the area known as Villaricca 2, corresponding to the Torretta-Scalzapecora district, about four kilometers from the center of Villaricca, on the border with Qualiano and Quarto in the Agro Giuglianese. This neighborhood grew rapidly starting in the 1970s, when what was once a countryside dotted with farmhouses—such as Masseria Iommelli and Masseria Regina Coeli—welcomed thousands of families from Naples. In such a young urban fabric, the parish has become the primary social reference point, and the festival is the moment when the neighborhood recognizes itself as a community.
The event has a long history: as early as 2014, local news reported the 17th edition of the Oasi Festival, a sign of a well-established custom in the September calendar. The last documented edition took place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, starting at 8:00 PM.
Those looking for massive festivals with thousands of visitors won't find that here. The Oasi Festival is something else entirely: an authentic, unfiltered village-style festival within the city, where the food is homemade and the proceeds stay within the community. For those visiting the area north of Naples, it is a chance to see firsthand how a Campanian patronal feast is truly experienced, far from tourist circuits, amidst popular devotion, gastronomy, and neighborhood life.
As of today, the San Giovanni Paolo II parish in Villaricca, in the province of Naples, has not yet released the dates or the program for the 2026 edition of the Oasi Festival. The reference remains the usual period for the event, the month of September, when the neighborhood gathers for the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Hope.
As every year, anticipation is high for the dishes prepared by community volunteers: stuffed and tomato pizzas, sausages and friarielli, and homemade desserts according to the Campanian tradition. Official information on dates, times, and the program is usually published by the parish on its social media channels in the weeks preceding the festival.

By car: Villaricca is accessible via the Asse Mediano and the Circumvallazione Esterna di Napoli, with exits toward Qualiano and Giugliano. The Torretta-Scalzapecora district is located along the Via Consolare Campana, just a few minutes from Quarto and Qualiano. By public transport: Villaricca is connected to Naples and neighboring towns by local bus lines; it is advisable to check evening schedules before departing.
The festival takes place in the evening; in 2025, the event was scheduled for 8:00 PM. Access to the festival area is generally free, while food can be purchased on-site at stalls managed by parish volunteers. Dates change from year to year as they are tied to the liturgical calendar, so it is always useful to check in advance.
