The running race along the Naviglio della Martesana, starting and finishing in Cernusco sul Naviglio
Every May, Cernusco sul Naviglio, in the province of Milan, hosts the Naviglio Half Marathon, one of the most beloved running races in the Milanese hinterland. The course, officially approved by FIDAL for the classic distance of 21.097 km, starts from the athletics track at the Sports Center in Via Buonarroti and unfolds through the city streets, historic squares, and especially along the towpath of the Naviglio della Martesana, heading towards Cassina de' Pecchi, Gorgonzola, and neighboring towns.
The event offers three courses designed for every type of participant: the half marathon of 21 km for the most trained runners, the LionsTen of 10 km, and the LionsFour of 4 km, the latter suitable for amateurs and families. This inclusive format is one of the reasons for the event's growing success, which records record numbers each year.
The Naviglio Half Marathon is organized by A.S.D. Pro Sesto Atletica Cernusco together with the Lions Club, with a strong charitable focus: part of the proceeds is donated to charitable initiatives. The race thus combines the passion for running with social commitment, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire city and the towns crossed by the route.
With over a thousand participants expected, the Naviglio Half Marathon is now a classic on the Lombard running calendar. Running along the Naviglio della Martesana means crossing a landscape that tells the hydraulic and agricultural history of the Milanese territory, on a flat and evocative route that enhances Cernusco sul Naviglio and the entire Martesana area.
The 2026 edition of the Naviglio Half Marathon, the XXIX, takes place on Sunday, May 17, in Cernusco sul Naviglio. The main race, a 21.097 km FIDAL-approved event, starts from the athletics track of the Sports Center in Via Buonarroti and crosses the city streets and the towpath of the Naviglio della Martesana towards Cassina de' Pecchi and Gorgonzola. The shorter LionsTen and LionsFour distances complete the program. This edition saw an absolute record number of participants.
