The feast of the king of the undergrowth in Cessapalombo, in the Sibillini Mountains
The Mushroom Festival is one of the most beloved and long-standing events in the Marche hinterland. Organized by the Pro Loco of Cessapalombo, a small municipality in the Province of Macerata nestled among the hills at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains, the event has been celebrating the mushroom for over half a century. This fungus, the true king of the Apennine undergrowth, is the focus of an entire gastronomic and community identity.
It's not just a food and wine festival; for the community of Cessapalombo, it's a true symbol, a moment of meeting, tradition, and conviviality that attracts residents and visitors from neighboring towns every year. The festival is an opportunity to rediscover the genuine flavors of the most authentic Marche, those of small villages and the close relationship between people and their land.
The heart of the event is the Pro Loco's kitchen, which offers mushrooms prepared in a thousand ways. Among the most requested specialties, you'll find:
Alongside the food stalls, the Mushroom Festival offers live music and a dedicated dance floor every evening. Orchestras and bands liven up the indoor evenings, transforming the Sports Hall into a large party room where generations gather between dishes. It is precisely this blend of good food, music, and socializing that makes the event an unmissable appointment of spring in the Marche.
Cessapalombo is a small village in the Province of Macerata, located in an area of great natural value on the edge of the Sibillini Mountains National Park. Forests, trails, and mushroom-picking traditions are part of this territory's DNA: the festival is its collective celebration, a way to enhance the rural identity of the Marche hinterland and to give visibility to a municipality that proudly preserves its roots.
The 52nd edition of the Mushroom Festival in Cessapalombo was held from May 22 to 24, 2026, at the Sports Hall, under the organization of the Pro Loco of Cessapalombo led by president Matteo Vergari. This year again, the event confirmed its role as a symbol of the community, combining the great mushroom gastronomy tradition with music and entertainment.
The food stalls opened on Friday, May 22, from 7:00 PM, while on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, service continued for both lunch and dinner, featuring typical mushroom dishes and specialties from the Macerata Apennines.
On the menu: fried mushrooms, sautéed mushrooms, mushroom risotto and tagliatelle, grilled options, and local specialties from the Marche hinterland.
