The grand operatic finale of the Morellino Classica Festival amidst the ruins of the Abbey of San Bruzio
The Morellino Classica Festival is the premier classical music event in the Grosseto Maremma. Established in 2012 and reaching its 15th edition in 2026, the festival takes place every summer from June to August, bringing high-level concerts to the hills and villages of the Morellino di Scansano territory in Tuscany. Artistically directed by Pietro Bonfilio and organized by the La Società della Musica Cultural Association based in Scansano, the festival has an international reach, hosting pianists, violinists, opera singers, and chamber ensembles from all over the world.
The most anticipated and scenic moment of the festival is the Opera Grand Gala, held at the end of August in the extraordinary setting of the Abbey of San Bruzio, in the municipality of Magliano in Toscana. The ruins of this ancient Romanesque abbey, nestled among the olive groves of the Maremma countryside, provide the perfect frame for an evening of operatic arias and symphonic works, featuring the great Italian repertoire from Verdi to Rossini, Puccini to Respighi, performed by renowned international artists.
A distinctive feature of the Morellino Classica Festival is its bond with local gastronomy: every concert is paired with a tasting of Morellino di Scansano DOCG, the famous red wine that gives the festival its name, alongside typical Maremma products. At the end of the San Bruzio Grand Gala, the audience is invited to a buffet featuring wine tastings and local specialties, in an experience that combines musical listening, landscape, and Maremma winemaking traditions.
Attending a concert at the Abbey of San Bruzio also means discovering one of the most fascinating sites in the Maremma: a place of great historical and archaeological value just a few kilometers from the medieval village of Magliano in Toscana, enclosed within its 16th-century walls. The Opera Grand Gala is the ideal opportunity to experience this corner of Tuscany on a summer evening, amidst the notes of Italian opera and the scents of the Maremma countryside.
The 15th edition of the Morellino Classica Festival (June 20 - August 23, 2026) concludes with the traditional Opera Grand Gala at the Abbey of San Bruzio, in Magliano in Toscana. The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 7:00 PM, with a program titled "Voices from Korea" dedicated to the great arias of the Italian operatic repertoire.
As per tradition, a tasting of Morellino di Scansano DOCG accompanied by typical Maremma products is planned at the end of the concert, in the evocative setting of the ancient Romanesque abbey ruins.
The detailed program for the "Voices from Korea" Opera Grand Gala will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
The performers and the complete musical program will be communicated by the organization on the official website and festival channels.
