The Sannio trade fair since 1974, in the heart of the Tammaro Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Morcone and Alto Tammaro Fair is much more than a commercial showcase: for fifty years, it has been the event that marks the end of summer in the town of Morcone, in the Province of Benevento, and throughout the inland area of the Alto Tammaro. In September 2025, the event celebrated its 50th edition, a rare milestone for a local fair, marked by a commemorative book, a photography exhibition, and a dedicated philatelic cancellation.
The roots of the event are ancient: every September 25th, the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel, exhibitors and merchants from across the region would gather in Morcone for one of the most popular livestock and tool markets in the Sannio Apennines. In 1974, that popular tradition evolved into a modern trade fair — the first of its kind in Campania — while maintaining its original mission: to promote local resources and offer local businesses a concrete opportunity for growth.
The event takes place at the Contrada Piana exhibition center, just outside the town: 40,000 sqm of equipped space featuring indoor pavilions, large outdoor areas for machinery, internal services, a food court, parking, a 150-seat conference center, and free Wi-Fi throughout the area. The location is strategic: Morcone serves as a natural bridge between Campania, Molise, the upper Caserta area, and Puglia, and the fair entrance is located just a few hundred meters from the junction serving the industrial zone.
The fair focuses on the production sectors that drive the Sannio economy:
What distinguishes the Morcone fair from purely commercial exhibitions is its congress component: each day alternates between conferences and seminars with technicians, institutions, trade associations, and specialized journalists, as well as workshops, practical field demonstrations, and B2B meetings between producers, distributors, and professionals. During the 50th-anniversary edition, national agricultural supply chain leaders and experiential tourism operators from the Tammaro Valley engaged in key discussions.
Alongside the stands, the fair is a large-scale village festival: visitors can sample cheeses and meats from the Alto Tammaro, olive oil, legumes, honey, truffles from the inland areas, and Sannio wines, while the evenings are dedicated to concerts, shows, and entertainment for families and children. It is the time of year when the town fills with visitors from all over Campania and Molise.
It is worth arriving a few hours early: Morcone is a village of Sannite origin perched on the slopes of Mount Mucre, at about 680 meters above sea level, with its characteristic layout of tiled roofs overlooking the Tammaro river valley. Here, the young Francesco Forgione — the future Saint Pio of Pietrelcina — took the Capuchin habit in the town's convent, and every year the historic center hosts Il Presepe nel Presepe, one of the most famous living nativity scenes in Campania.
The Morcone and Alto Tammaro Fair is traditionally held at the end of September, around the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel: the 50th-anniversary edition took place from September 25 to 29, 2025. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been released by the Azienda Speciale Consortile FMAT, which has meanwhile enlivened the exhibition center with other events, from the Api e Dintorni beekeeping fair in February to the European event TAM Flowing Forward in June.
After the 50th edition in September 2025, the Morcone and Alto Tammaro Fair prepares to return to the Contrada Piana exhibition center in Morcone, in the Province of Benevento. As of the update date of this page, the organizers have not yet published the official dates for the 2026 edition or the calendar of conferences, shows, and events: the event has historically taken place around September 25th, the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, from which the fair originated in 1974.
Those planning a visit can meanwhile refer to the traditional layout of the exhibition: 40,000 sqm of exhibition area with indoor pavilions and outdoor spaces, sectors including agriculture, livestock, agribusiness, crafts, home furnishings, and energy, a 150-seat conference center, and evenings dedicated to music and entertainment. That the exhibition entity is in full swing is confirmed by other events already hosted in 2026 in Contrada Piana: the third edition of the Api e Dintorni beekeeping fair from February 13 to 15 and the European event TAM Flowing Forward, a satellite of the New European Bauhaus Festival, in June.
Dates and the program will be released by the Azienda Speciale Consortile FMAT through the official website and the fair's social media channels: it is advisable to check them before traveling.
The exhibition center is located at Contrada Piana 131, in the industrial zone of Morcone, about 800 meters from the SS 88 junction; the area can be reached from the A1 and A14 motorways via the Fondo Valle Tammaro road. Morcone is about 35 km from Benevento. Parking is available within the fairgrounds.
In the 2025 edition, admission was free on weekday mornings and cost 3 euros in the afternoons and on holidays. The area is fenced, illuminated, and open continuously during the fair days; rates for the next edition are communicated by the organizers closer to the event.

If you are traveling with children, aim for the afternoon: shows and entertainment areas are concentrated in the evening hours. Also, plan a walk in the historic center of Morcone, one of the most photographed villages in Sannio.
