Floats, confetti, and a party in the square in the heart of Valconca
In the heart of Valconca, the Morciano di Romagna Carnival is one of the most cherished events of the winter season in the Municipality in the Province of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna. The festival transforms the streets of the centre into a large space for play and wonder, where the popular tradition of allegorical floats meets contemporary entertainment, involving adults and children in an afternoon of colour and joy.
For about twenty years, the historic float parade had been suspended. Its return, which occurred in 2023, marked a new season for the Morciano Carnival: the colourful floats once again cross the streets, throwing sweets and confetti, bringing back the collective participation that has always characterised this festival. It is a rebirth that the community has welcomed with enthusiasm, reviving a cherished tradition of the Valconca area.
The hub of the celebrations is Piazza Risorgimento, from which the grand parade starts, winding through the town's streets. Alongside the allegorical floats, there are numerous other attractions:
Admission is completely free, in line with the inclusive spirit intended by the organisers.
The event is the result of synergy between Catholic Action of Morciano, the Municipality of Morciano di Romagna, and the Pro Loco, with the involvement of local associations. This collaboration confirms the community nature of the Carnival, built year after year by the participation of volunteers and local families.
The Morciano Carnival is part of the broader widespread Carnival of Romagna, which animates dozens of towns with floats, masks, and street parties between late January and February. In this mosaic of traditions, Morciano di Romagna offers a compact and family-friendly version, perfect for those who want to experience the authentic atmosphere of the Romagna Carnival away from the crowds of major events.
With the slogan "This year the party doubles!", the 2026 edition of the Morciano di Romagna Carnival was divided into two main events, organised by Catholic Action of Morciano with the Municipality and the Pro Loco.
The opening evening on Saturday, January 31st was held at the Exhibition Pavilion starting at 7:00 PM, with a convivial dinner featuring Romagna flavours curated by the Pro Loco, a live show by Joe Dibrutto, and an evening DJ set.
The highlight of the festival arrived on Sunday, February 8th in Piazza Risorgimento, where the parade of allegorical floats began at 2:30 PM along the town's streets, accompanied by travelling shows, entertainment for adults and children, music, traditional sweets, and streamers. Admission to all events was free.
