The day dedicated to Coroncina oil in the heart of the Macerata hinterland
Monti Azzurri Experience is a series of days designed by the Unione Montana dei Monti Azzurri to enhance the territory, traditions, and local excellences of the Marche hinterland. More than just an event, it's an invitation to slow down and rediscover villages that, as the organizers explain, are "truly exceptional for their tranquility, environment, and, why not, for their culinary delights".
The initiative unfolds in several stages across the Municipalities of the Mountain Union, between the province of Macerata and the borders of the Sibillini Mountains National Park. Each event combines nature, outdoor activities, and food and wine, showcasing a symbolic product of the host village.
In Camporotondo di Fiastrone, a small hilltop village in the province of Macerata in the Marche region, the day is dedicated to Coroncina oil, the single-variety extra virgin olive oil obtained from the native cultivar of the same name. Coroncina is one of the most representative varieties of olive growing in the Monti Azzurri area: it yields an oil with an intense profile, with notes of bitterness and spiciness, a direct expression of the olive grove landscape surrounding the village.
Camporotondo is among the Municipalities that have launched the "Coroncinus" project, collective production of Coroncina oil together with Belforte del Chienti, Caldarola, Cessapalombo, and Serrapetrona: an initiative born to protect and promote a niche production, strongly linked to the identity of this corner of the Macerata hinterland.
The philosophy of Monti Azzurri Experience is to combine the promotion of typical products with the slow discovery of places: tastings, convivial moments, and opportunities to walk and breathe the authentic atmosphere of small villages. The Camporotondo stop is part of a broader program that, in the same weeks, also includes the Caccamo Lake in Serrapetrona, with water activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and water biking, and Cessapalombo, with a day dedicated to saffron and workshops for children in the green Sibillini mountains.
For those who want to discover the most authentic Marche, far from mass tourist routes, Monti Azzurri Experience is an excellent gateway: a spring weekend among hills, olive trees, and flavors of a territory wounded by the 2016 earthquake but alive and welcoming.
The Monti Azzurri Experience 2026 offered a series of three days to promote the villages and food and wine excellences of the Macerata hinterland, promoted by the Unione Montana dei Monti Azzurri.
The calendar kicked off on May 1st at Caccamo Lake in Serrapetrona, with excursions by kayak, stand-up paddleboard, water bike, tastings of Vernaccia di Serrapetrona wine, and live music; it continued on May 16th in Camporotondo di Fiastrone, with the day dedicated to Coroncina oil, the typical single-variety extra virgin olive oil of the area; and concluded on May 17th in Cessapalombo, with the event dedicated to saffron and workshops for children focused on nature in the Sibillini Park.
The Camporotondo day of the Monti Azzurri Experience was dedicated to Coroncina oil, the single-variety extra virgin olive oil from the Monti Azzurri area, with moments of tasting and discovery of the village.
The detailed program with precise times and individual activities was not fully published on the consulted channels: specific information was disseminated through the social media channels of the Unione Montana dei Monti Azzurri and the Municipality of Camporotondo di Fiastrone.
