An evening in the village of the battle

The village of Montebello della Battaglia, in the Province of Pavia, carries the memory of the famous battle of 1859 in its name, an episode of the Second Italian War of Independence. The evening Sussurri di Borgo Antico is dedicated to this link between history and territory, inviting visitors to rediscover the village in the Oltrepò Pavese through culture, taste, and music.

On the trail of history

The evening begins with a guided tour of the symbolic sites of the 1859 Battle of Montebello, meeting in front of the Town Hall. A route that recounts the clashes between Piedmontese cavalry, French infantry, and the Austrian army, bringing back to light the events that made the Oltrepò village famous.

Riesling at Castello Beccaria

The heart of the evening is the tasting in the evocative setting of Castello Beccaria, a fifteenth-century residence built in 1472 by the Beccaria family. Here, typical local products—cured meats, cheeses, sweets—are sampled, paired with Riesling wines from Montebello wineries, in collaboration with local agricultural businesses. Riesling is one of the most representative grape varieties of this corner of the Oltrepò.

Music in the square and territorial project

The evening concludes with a concert in the main square, combining historical and food-and-wine discovery with the pleasure of live music. Sussurri di Borgo Antico is part of the project 'Nelle terre del Riesling: borghi, battaglie e vino' (In the lands of Riesling: villages, battles, and wine), supported by the Lombardy Region, which enhances the link between historical heritage, landscape, and the wine-growing tradition of the Oltrepò Pavese. Admission is free and open to all.
