Monte Compatri Music Festival

A day of music throughout the Castelli Romani

Perched on the Alban Hills just over twenty kilometers from Rome, the town of Monte Compatri, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio), has chosen June 21st to open its historic center to the Music Festival. The event is part of the national initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture, which involves over seven hundred Italian municipalities on the longest day of the year with concerts, performances, and sound installations with free admission.

The format chosen by the Department of Culture and Tourism is not that of a single large stage, but rather that of widespread music: the alleys, squares, and civic spaces of the village become listening venues, accessible on foot along the climb that leads to the Cathedral and the Belvedere.

From the town band to chamber music

The day opens in the mid-morning with the musical parade of the Corpo Folkloristico Musicale Compatrum, accompanied by the Compatrum Majorettes: a procession that crosses the heart of the historic center and is, in effect, the way the community recognizes itself and sets out. It is the most popular register of the festival, that of the town band that has marked local celebrations for generations.

In the afternoon, the tone changes. At the Teatro Don Narciso Bortolotti, near the Cathedral, the Moreschi Festival takes the stage with the show In coro per l'Angelo di Roma, entrusted to the Alessandro Moreschi Choir, a group that weaves together music, words, and scenic movement. The choir, linked to the memory of the famous singer born in Monte Compatri, represents one of the most long-standing cultural institutions in the area.

At sunset, the center of gravity shifts to the Belvedere of Piazza della Repubblica, overlooking the Roman countryside: here the square becomes an open-air gallery with a personal painting exhibition, while the Trio Accademia Antica - flute, oboe, and cello - accompanies the sunset with an elegant and accessible chamber repertoire.

Monte Compatri and its musical tradition

The hilltop village is no stranger to music: the Corpo Folkloristico Musicale Compatrum and the Alessandro Moreschi Choir are deeply rooted institutions that have been enlivening patronal feasts, choral reviews, and civic events in the town for years. The Music Festival has the merit of bringing them together in a single day, giving visibility to an associative fabric that usually works in a widespread but inconspicuous way.

Surrounding the festival is the local heritage: the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the medieval alleys of the center, the proximity to the Castelli Romani Regional Park, and the food and wine tradition of the Tusculan area, with the wines of the Castelli and the Roman cuisine of the village taverns.

An event to follow

As an initiative promoted at a national level and replicated every June 21st, the Monte Compatri Music Festival is destined to return in subsequent years.
