About Mondovisioni

Mondovisioni is the festival dedicated to international documentary cinema curated by the weekly magazine Internazionale, which also arrives at Cinema Nuovo in Castelfranco Emilia, in the province of Modena. For five Saturday afternoons, between April and May, the screen lights up with some of the most awarded non-fiction films from major world festivals: stories of current affairs, human rights, and resistance, screened in their original language with Italian subtitles and free admission.

The Cinema of Reality in Castelfranco Emilia

Mondovisioni is the film festival curated by the weekly magazine Internazionale and dedicated to major current affairs documentaries. For several years, the festival has also stopped at the Cinema Nuovo in Castelfranco Emilia, in the province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna, bringing to the screen a selection of the most significant titles presented at major international festivals. These are works that tell the contemporary world with personal, courageous, and often surprising perspectives, capable of bringing audiences closer to stories that would otherwise remain distant.

The 2026 Edition: Five Saturdays of Documentaries

The 2026 edition, the seventeenth, took place over five Saturday afternoons between April and May, with screenings at 4:00 PM. The five documentaries in the program addressed some of the most pressing issues of our time, from Palestine to Cuba, from Sweden to Poland, via Mexico:

  • April 4 — The Life That Remains, on the Palestinian diaspora and the conflict in Gaza
  • April 11 — The Dialogue Police, on the Swedish police defending freedom of expression
  • May 2 — Night Is Not Eternal, on the Cuban political crisis
  • May 16 — Niñxs, on the transition journey of a Mexican teenager
  • May 30 — The Guest, about a Polish family hosting a Syrian refugee

Original Version and Guest Encounters

All films are screened in original language with Italian subtitles, respecting the linguistic and stylistic choices of the directors. Each screening is enriched by discussions with nationally relevant guests, who help the audience contextualize the themes addressed: a feature that makes Mondovisioni not just a film festival, but also an opportunity for in-depth analysis and debate on current affairs.

A Free Festival Open to All

Admission to all screenings is free, in line with the project's educational mission, supported in Castelfranco Emilia by the collaboration between Cinema Nuovo and the Municipality. Mondovisioni represents one of the most anticipated events for those in the Modena area who want to engage with documentary cinema in its highest form and with the major issues of the present.
