The village's traditional Carnival, featuring bean stew, fritters, and the Mooncravot group
The Moncrivello Carnival is one of the most cherished festivals in this small village in the Province of Vercelli, Piedmont, located on the border with the Canavese area near the waters of the Dora Baltea. For about thirty years, the event has been organized by the Pro Carnevale Committee, a group of volunteers who keep the tradition alive thanks to donations collected door-to-door from residents and the support of the Municipality of Moncrivello.
The most anticipated moment is undoubtedly the famous fagiolata (bean stew), the pride of the village. Volunteers cook the beans overnight in three large copper cauldrons, each capable of holding up to 200 kilograms. Distribution takes place in the former Town Hall square, the heart of the historic center, following the traditional blessing given by the parish priest. It is a collective ritual that attracts visitors from neighboring towns: the Moncrivello bean stew, along with its fritters, has become a local specialty known throughout the area.
The days are enlivened by the Mooncravot group, which parades through the village streets with its Carnival King, dozens of performers, dancers, and musicians in vibrant costumes. A colorful procession that combines the playful spirit of Carnival with the typical imagination of Piedmontese village festivals.
The Moncrivello Carnival program weaves together various moments dedicated to the community:
The Moncrivello Carnival is part of the extensive Borghi in Maschera (Masked Villages) network, a project that unites dozens of municipalities in the Vercelli area and neighboring territories in a widespread Carnival featuring parades, bean stews, and re-enactments. A network that highlights the traditions of small towns between the Sesia, Dora Baltea, and Po rivers, of which Moncrivello is an authentic and tasty piece.
The 2026 Moncrivello Carnival was held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, coinciding with Shrove Tuesday, in the historic center of the village in the Province of Vercelli. The official notice of traffic closure, with the suspension of the former Town Hall square bus stop and the diversion of ATAP lines 345 and 348, confirmed the event took place between 6:00 PM and midnight. The edition was part of the Borghi in Maschera circuit, the widespread Carnival that unites the municipalities of the Vercelli area. As per tradition, the festival was organized by the Pro Carnevale Committee with its most beloved rituals, from the bean stew to the fritters.
