About Moncrivello Carnival

In the heart of the Vercelli area, bordering the Canavese region, Moncrivello celebrates its Carnival every year. It is a popular festival deeply rooted in village life for decades, organized by the Pro Carnevale Committee and brought to life by the Mooncravot group. The historic center's squares come alive with the most beloved Piedmontese traditions: the grand bean stew cooked in massive copper cauldrons, fragrant fritters, masks, and festive moments that delight both young and old. A genuine event that defines the local identity, known throughout the surrounding towns for its delicious flavors.

The Moncrivello Carnival

The Moncrivello Carnival is one of the most cherished festivals in this small village in the Province of Vercelli, Piedmont, located on the border with the Canavese area near the waters of the Dora Baltea. For about thirty years, the event has been organized by the Pro Carnevale Committee, a group of volunteers who keep the tradition alive thanks to donations collected door-to-door from residents and the support of the Municipality of Moncrivello.

The bean stew, the heart of the festival

The most anticipated moment is undoubtedly the famous fagiolata (bean stew), the pride of the village. Volunteers cook the beans overnight in three large copper cauldrons, each capable of holding up to 200 kilograms. Distribution takes place in the former Town Hall square, the heart of the historic center, following the traditional blessing given by the parish priest. It is a collective ritual that attracts visitors from neighboring towns: the Moncrivello bean stew, along with its fritters, has become a local specialty known throughout the area.

The masks and the Mooncravot group

The days are enlivened by the Mooncravot group, which parades through the village streets with its Carnival King, dozens of performers, dancers, and musicians in vibrant costumes. A colorful procession that combines the playful spirit of Carnival with the typical imagination of Piedmontese village festivals.

A festival for all ages

The Moncrivello Carnival program weaves together various moments dedicated to the community:

  • The bean stew in the square, with a blessing and distribution to all present;
  • The children's party, with snacks, sweets, and masks for the little ones;
  • Fritters and typical Carnival sweets, prepared by the volunteers;
  • Raffles and festive moments that conclude the celebrations.

Masked Villages

The Moncrivello Carnival is part of the extensive Borghi in Maschera (Masked Villages) network, a project that unites dozens of municipalities in the Vercelli area and neighboring territories in a widespread Carnival featuring parades, bean stews, and re-enactments. A network that highlights the traditions of small towns between the Sesia, Dora Baltea, and Po rivers, of which Moncrivello is an authentic and tasty piece.
