Cinema Returns to Small Towns

MoliseCinema Film Festival is the main film festival in Molise. It takes place in August in Casacalenda, in the province of Campobasso, and makes its motto – "small towns, big screens" – a true statement of intent: to claim the right to experience cinema even in the villages of inland areas, far from the big cinemas. Screenings liven up the village squares, especially Piazza Nardacchione, transforming Casacalenda into an open-air film set.

Four Competitive Sections

The festival is organised into four main sections: Paesi in corto (international short films up to 20 minutes), Paesi in lungo (feature films, first and second works), Percorsi (Italian short films), and Frontiere (documentaries). Particular attention is paid to young Italian, European, and international authors, innovative projects, and films that tell the story of encounters between peoples and cultures.

A Long-Standing Event

Born in the early 2000s, the festival has grown to become a benchmark event for auteur and independent cinema in the Centre-South. In addition to screenings, MoliseCinema offers meetings with directors and authors, training moments, and initiatives that intertwine cinema, territory, and community. For Casacalenda and for Molise, it is the great cultural showcase of the summer.
