Milano Musica — Creative Distances

Thirty Years of Contemporary Music

Milano Musica is one of the most important Italian events dedicated to contemporary music. Founded in 1992 in close collaboration with the Teatro alla Scala, it annually constructs a listening journey that explores the great creations of the 20th century and our time, hosting internationally renowned composers, performers, and orchestras. The festival takes place in numerous venues across Milan, from major institutions to more experimental spaces, positioning itself as a true dynamic laboratory.

The 2026 Edition: Creative Distances

The 2026 edition is the thirty-fifth and bears the title Creative Distances. The program revolves around two great masters born in 1926: Morton Feldman and György Kurtág. Two opposing yet complementary poetics: Feldman's extreme durations and almost imperceptible dynamics on one hand, and Kurtág's concentrated and fleeting emotional density on the other. Around them, a rich program unfolds, featuring eight world premieres and thirteen Italian premieres.

A Festival Spread Throughout the City

Milano Musica is distinguished by the plurality of its venues, which create a dialogue between institutional spaces and independent locations: Pirelli HangarBicocca, Teatro alla Scala, Fabbrica del Vapore, Teatro Elfo Puccini, Sala Verdi of the Conservatory, Palazzo Invernizzi, Teatro Gerolamo, Chiesa di Sant'Angelo, Auditorium Angelicum, MEET di Porta Venezia, and Teatro Arsenale. A geography that spans Milan and showcases its cultural vibrancy.

Between Concert and Performance

The festival is not limited to the traditional concert format; it defines itself as a dynamic laboratory, capable of alternating conventional listening situations with hybrid and performative forms. It is an invitation to experience contemporary music as an event, in dialogue with the spaces that host it. Milano Musica thus reaffirms Milan's role as one of Europe's capitals of contemporary music.
