The widespread summer festival in the historic center of Galatone
Midsummer Night is one of the most anticipated events of the Galatone summer: a grand widespread festival that every July transforms the heart of Galatone, a town in the province of Lecce in Salento, into an open-air stage. For one night, the town center dresses up for the occasion, welcoming thousands of people with music, shows, shopping, and entertainment for all ages.
The event route winds through the main arteries of the center, which become a pedestrian zone for the occasion: Via XX Settembre, Viale XXIV Maggio, and Piazza Pertini. Along the entire route, there are performance stations, exhibitions, and activities, while local shops stay open until late at night with special promotions and themed window displays.
The program is rich and spread throughout the route, with offerings designed to engage both adults and children:
Midsummer Night was born as an initiative of the Galatone municipal administration, organized in collaboration with the Traders' Union and local businesses. The goal is twofold: to offer an evening of conviviality and fun to citizens and visitors, and at the same time, to promote local commerce and the historic center as a space for gathering. Over the years, the event has grown to become one of the symbolic appointments of the town's summer.
The event is part of the Estate Galatea calendar, the rich summer program of the Municipality of Galatone which, from June to September, offers dozens of events including theater, dance, music, cinema, sports, meetings with authors, and food and wine appointments. Midsummer Night represents one of its most attended and anticipated moments.
The sixth edition of the Midsummer Night took place on Friday, July 3, 2026, in the historic center of Galatone, in the province of Lecce, starting at 9:00 PM. As per tradition, Via XX Settembre, Viale XXIV Maggio, and Piazza Pertini were closed to traffic and transformed into a long pedestrian route dedicated to the festival.
The program, distributed along the entire route, featured street performers, street bands, luminous stilt walkers, jugglers, and fire shows, as well as magic, mascots, face painting, creative workshops, and wooden games for the little ones. There were also DJ sets, art installations, and performances by dance schools and local sports associations. The free-admission event was organized by the Municipality of Galatone in collaboration with the Traders' Union and the Pro Loco.
Galatone is located in Salento, about 20 km from Lecce. By car, it can be reached via the SS101 Lecce-Gallipoli road (Galatone exit). The Galatone train station is served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est on the Lecce-Gallipoli line.
Admission is free. The event takes place in the evening, starting at 9:00 PM, along Via XX Settembre, Viale XXIV Maggio, and Piazza Pertini, which are closed to traffic for the occasion.
We recommend parking in areas outside the historic center and reaching the pedestrian zone on foot. It is ideal for families with children.
