About Medieval Spring
A taste of the Middle Ages in spring
The Medieval Spring is the event with which Bevagna — ancient Mevania, in the province of Perugia — anticipates the atmosphere of the renowned Mercato delle Gaite in the days between April and May. Organized by the Mercato delle Gaite Association, the event brings medieval art, music, and dance, crafts, period gastronomy, and historical pageants back to the village streets.
What to see
The program combines study conferences, medieval music concerts, itinerant shows with jesters and street artists, medieval market stalls, craft demonstrations, taverns with historically inspired cuisine, and guided tours to discover the districts (the Gaite). It's the ideal opportunity to experience Bevagna in a quieter season than June, immersed in the same historical accuracy that characterizes the summer re-enactment.
Bevagna and Franciscanism
The 2026 edition is particularly linked to the territory: dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, it offers conferences and moments dedicated to the Saint and Franciscan spirituality, in an Umbria that was the heart of that experience.

The 2026 edition of Bevagna's Medieval Spring is dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis. The event officially opens on Thursday, April 30 at 5:30 PM at the Torti Theater with a conference by Cardinal Battaglia, and will unfold over four days of activities in the historic center and the Gaite districts.

Bevagna can be reached by car from the SS3 Flaminia or the SS316 dei Monti Martani. The nearest train station is Foligno (Rome-Ancona line), with onward bus connections. Parking is available outside the walls.
