The masquerade parade in the village of Masi, Val di Fiemme
The Masi di Cavalese Carnival is one of the many festivities that bring Val di Fiemme to life during the carnival season. It takes place in Masi, a small village within the Municipality of Cavalese, in the province of Trento, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It is a family-friendly, local celebration where children are the stars, invited to dress up and participate in the traditional masquerade parade.
The Masi carnival is part of the rich carnival tradition of Val di Fiemme, a valley that preserves some of the most evocative masked rituals in the Dolomites, such as the famous Matoci of Valfloriana. Compared to those more ancient and spectacular events, the Masi celebration is more intimate and local, designed as a gathering for the community and the village families. It is the perfect opportunity, at the end of winter, to step outside, put on a costume, and gather together in the square.
The meeting point is Piazza della Chiesa, in the center of Masi. From here, the masquerade parade begins, winding joyfully through the village streets amidst confetti and streamers. Upon returning to the square, games and entertainment for children begin, with snacks and fun for everyone. The event is free and open to anyone who wishes to join, both residents and visitors.
The Masi di Cavalese Carnival is designed as a light and serene afternoon event, perfect for those spending their winter holiday in Val di Fiemme who want to experience a moment of authentic village life. The setting is the Fiemme Dolomites, with Cavalese, the valley's main town, just a few minutes away. In case of bad weather, the outdoor event is either cancelled or moved indoors to the multi-purpose center.
The 2026 Masi di Cavalese Carnival was held on Sunday, February 15. The meeting point was set for 2:30 PM in Piazza della Chiesa; at 2:45 PM, the masquerade parade began through the village streets, while from 3:30 PM, games and activities for children started in the square, with the event concluding around 5:00 PM. The event, with free admission, was organized by the A.P.T. Val di Fiemme e Val di Cembra, with cancellation planned in case of bad weather.
