Belfiore's patronal feast in honor of the Madonna della Strà, featuring roast duck and fireworks
The Madonna della Strà Festival, which everyone in Belfiore simply calls the Duck Festival, is the most anticipated event of the year for this town in the plain east of Verona. It is held between the end of August and the first days of September in Piazza Carlo Lebrecht, the heart of the town, and attracts visitors from all over the eastern Veronese area.
The festival is, first and foremost, the patronal feast in honor of the Madonna della Strà, venerated in the Romanesque sanctuary of the same name dating back to 1143. The link between the festival and Marian devotion remains strong: the concluding Monday is dedicated to liturgical celebrations, with Holy Mass at the sanctuary and, in traditional editions, the sacrament of the anointing of the sick.
The "Duck" nickname comes from the festival's signature dish: duck (anara in the Veneto dialect), served roasted with polenta or in delicious duck lasagna. The food stalls, housed under a large tent covering about 500 square meters, offer these and other specialties of Veronese peasant cuisine, in a convivial atmosphere that is the true spirit of a village festival.
Each evening of the festival is accompanied by live music, DJ sets, and themed evenings that liven up the square until late. The most anticipated moment is the grand fireworks display that concludes the event: the fireworks, according to tradition, recreate the burning of the bell tower, offering a spectacular light show above the rooftops of Belfiore. The festival is organized by Pro Loco Belfiore, with free admission.
The 2026 edition of the Madonna della Strà Festival confirms the early September date in Belfiore, in the Veronese plain. The event maintains its dual nature, religious and popular: on one hand, celebrations in honor of the Madonna della Strà at the 1143 Romanesque sanctuary, and on the other, the grand gastronomic festival in Piazza Carlo Lebrecht.
As tradition dictates, food stalls with typical duck dishes (roast duck with polenta and duck lasagna) are expected, along with evenings of live music and DJ sets, and the grand concluding fireworks display. The precise dates and full schedule will be published by Pro Loco Belfiore in the weeks preceding the festival.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by Pro Loco Belfiore. Based on previous editions, the typical structure includes:
