In the heart of the Parioli district, just a short walk from Villa Ada and the Olympic Village, the Luiss Campus on Viale Romania hosts what students simply call "the most anticipated night of the year" every late June. The Luiss Grand Ball is the major night-time celebration with which the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli bids farewell to the academic year: the campus lawns, courtyards, and outdoor spaces are outfitted with stages, lights, and refreshment areas, turning the university into the largest open-air dance floor in this part of Rome for one night.

A different theme for every edition

What makes the Grand Ball instantly recognizable is the theme that changes annually, guiding the decorations, set design, and dress code. While the 2025 edition was dedicated to travel with "Around the World," a tribute to the university's international spirit and flavors from the five continents, the 2026 edition chose the "Golden Gala": gold as a symbol of excellence, ambition, and achieved goals, with an invitation to attend in elegant attire embellished, for those who wish, with golden details.

Music, guests, and atmosphere

The musical program alternates between DJ sets and a special guest announced in the weeks prior, capable of keeping the campus singing and dancing until late at night. Over the years, well-known names from the Italian pop and dance scene have performed; for 2026, the choice fell on Il Pagante, the Milanese project that has become a staple of university parties. Surrounding the stage, food islands, bars, and lounge areas complete an experience that is simultaneously an end-of-year party, an informal ceremony, and a social occasion.

An event reserved for students

The Grand Ball is not open to the general public: access is reserved for Luiss students, who purchase tickets online by registering their student ID number. A long-standing policy allows the first 600 buyers to purchase a second ticket for an external guest, who must enter together with the student who invited them. This choice preserves the community spirit of the evening and largely explains its success: attendees reconnect with classmates, graduating students, and alumni in a setting far removed from lecture halls.

A commitment to charity

For several editions, the Grand Ball has paired the party with a charitable component: a fixed portion of every ticket is donated to an organization chosen in collaboration with student representatives. In 2026, the contribution was destined for the Italian Red Cross, while in 2025, the lottery linked to the evening supported the MAIS Association. This is a long-standing tradition that ties the event to the university's social life.

Within the landscape of summer events in the Capital, and more generally in the Lazio region, the Grand Ball occupies a unique niche: it is not a city-wide festival open to everyone, but it has become a symbolic fixture in the Roman youth calendar, covered by local press and widely followed on social media. The Municipality of Rome and the Parioli district provide the backdrop for an evening that effectively marks the start of summer for a significant portion of the city's university students.

The 2026 edition was held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, with gates opening at 8:30 PM. The previous edition took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025. The date traditionally falls in the last ten days of June, at the end of the summer exam session.
