About Luca Avesani Granfondo

Every first of May, thousands of cyclists start from Piazza Bra, in front of the Arena, for the Granfondo Luca Avesani. A challenge among the climbs of Valpantena and the Veronese Torricelle, the same hairpin bends as the Cycling World Championships, on 85 km and 115 km routes. A race created in memory of Luca Avesani, to celebrate his passion for cycling and for the Verona territory.

From Piazza Bra to the legendary climbs

The Granfondo Luca Avesani — Verona Cycling Marathon is one of the most evocative granfondo events in the Veronese calendar. The start is from Piazza Bra, at the foot of the Arena di Verona, from where the peloton sets off towards the hills north of the city.

Two routes, many climbs

The event offers two routes: a classic 85 km route with 1,550 meters of elevation gain and a long route of about 115 km with 2,250 meters of elevation gain. After an initial stretch along the Valpantena, cyclists tackle challenging climbs such as the one to Cerro Veronese and La Bettola, up to the grand finale on the Torricelle, the slopes made famous by the Cycling World Championships.

In memory of Luca Avesani

The granfondo was created to honor the memory and passion of Luca Avesani for cycling and his territory. The Avesani brand has designed a route that showcases the Veronese lands, particularly the Valpolicella, famous for its wines.

A celebration of cycling in Verona

More than just a race, the Granfondo Luca Avesani is a celebration for cycling enthusiasts, which every first of May draws fans from all over Italy to Verona, in Veneto, to pedal on roads closed to traffic amidst hilly landscapes and vineyards.
