The granfondo from Piazza Bra to the Torricelle of Verona
The Granfondo Luca Avesani — Verona Cycling Marathon is one of the most evocative granfondo events in the Veronese calendar. The start is from Piazza Bra, at the foot of the Arena di Verona, from where the peloton sets off towards the hills north of the city.
The event offers two routes: a classic 85 km route with 1,550 meters of elevation gain and a long route of about 115 km with 2,250 meters of elevation gain. After an initial stretch along the Valpantena, cyclists tackle challenging climbs such as the one to Cerro Veronese and La Bettola, up to the grand finale on the Torricelle, the slopes made famous by the Cycling World Championships.
The granfondo was created to honor the memory and passion of Luca Avesani for cycling and his territory. The Avesani brand has designed a route that showcases the Veronese lands, particularly the Valpolicella, famous for its wines.
More than just a race, the Granfondo Luca Avesani is a celebration for cycling enthusiasts, which every first of May draws fans from all over Italy to Verona, in Veneto, to pedal on roads closed to traffic amidst hilly landscapes and vineyards.
The 2026 edition of the Granfondo Luca Avesani took place on Friday, May 1, 2026, starting from Piazza Bra, in front of the Arena di Verona. The roads on the route were closed to traffic. Registration, starting from 35 euros, was managed on the Endu platform, with check-in on April 30th and on the morning of the race itself.
